At last, I no longer need to rely on Google Maps to find my way to all the good cheese-wheel shops in Amsterdam 🧀

PSA - the new maps are still not live yet.

But even when they are, they won’t bring you cycling directions, making this app as useful for Dutch users as an Apple Maps without car directions would be for American users.
I read this comment in the YouTuber Not Just Bikes' voice. He moved from car-based Canadian suburbia to the more cycling- and pedestrian-friendly streets of the Netherlands.

This gives me hope that Apple Maps update at some point comes to Denmark. My biggest problem with AM in Denmark is the lack of bike routing, which unfortunately does not seem to be a big part of this update.

But using Apple Maps for most of my mapping needs (only Google Maps on Web) and adding lots of POI corrections to AM, hopefully getting more users here and more attention in general to be taken more serious.

I remember building up the Waze map in the town I used to live in. Drove down roads to get street names and create GPS tracks to build roads out from on the computer. It was fun.

btw. many failures on this article.

in germany apple maps are great!!!!!
i was on a trip 2 months ago between amsterdam (netherlands) - belgium and germany. i hated the trip through netherlands because every crossroad was mentioned 4 times by apple maps with a „road name“ / what? who cares about a road name on transit????
so, i hope the update will adress the bugs

I'm still waiting for Look Around to come to the rest of the US besides only the downtown areas of the largest cities in the country. It was announced 3 and a half years ago and probably in development before that. Odd that it takes so long. Who knows when the richer AR map views from iOS 15 will eventually trickle out to the plebs.

Apple Maps is garbage. Please just integrate google maps, give up.
I use Apple Maps every day and have never had a problem with it. It gets me where I want to go efficiently, the display is pleasing and readable, and their handling of my data is much less creepy than with Google.

I once had Google Maps literally tell me to use any lane of the 5-lane freeway I was on to make an immediate U-turn (complete with little U-turn arrows on all 5 lanes). While Apple Maps hasn't tried to kill me even once.

Every time somebody suggests that Apple Maps is garbage, I have to wonder if they've actually seriously tried it any time in the past five years.

Damn this update is garbage... so many things wrong about it (that will probably not get fixed)
Old 3D map data from 2015, walls in 3D instead of building block, coloring doesn't make sense: green when concrete in reality, brown/yellow in a silent neighborhood, new AND old buildings on top of eachother...

You do because you need their bike routes.

Report the issues. I reported a whole list regarding their treatment of the huge mall next to Utrecht CS (Google Maps shows 8 floors; Apple Maps doesn’t even show a single passage).

Maps continues to lack credibility. Routings can be absurd and indicated locations and routings may not represent the actual location. I don’t need a nav app that “might” work once and a while.

As a recent migrant from Google/Pixel I can honestly say that Apple maps kinda sucks. In one month I've had two significant navigation issues where it took me to the wrong place. However, Google maps when using wireless Android Auto or Carplay also sucks - it's super laggy (but accurate). So it's a lose/lose situation.

I disagree on the "giving up" part, Apple Maps has something going that's tighter than google maps, and i think that if they keep it up they can give a more consistent experience than google does

at the moment the QC is garbage though
And they wanted Scott Forstall to have it done 10 years ago lmao. 10 years later and still can’t relay on Apple Maps. Since Scott left everything went downhill regarding iOS.

And, like Google, no way to turn off the destinations / retail / restaurants and bars if you don't want / need them.
Apple hates when apps have ads / promotional features in them - except when its in their apps.

Meanwhile Apple Maps still feels like its a project they left to interns, gave them a broom closet to work in and only occasionally remembering they are there. And its only a matter of time before they add Apple News items to your searches, too.

This is what I don’t understand. They are building this 3D things based on old information. The discrepancies will be noticed way more, obviously.

When are they gonna use it in ‘Find My’?!
London has nice new maps in the Maps app but ‘Find My’ has imaging in London from 2015.
Occasionally it will temporarily glitch, usually in macOS, and show the new imaging but it always reverts back to 2015.
They recently introduced POI in Find My with iOS 16.
