Which has street level views? Nuff said.

Google street view is slow to navigate click arrow move forward a little, click arrow move forward a little etc slow and not very useful. Also you cant see surrounding buildings making navigation a hassle. Street view has been dumped for the much better 3D Flyover feature.

You do realise thats a completely (statistically) false argument don't you?

What I mean is, that whilst Apple maps may be better for your usage that does not mean it's better for the world's usage. Statistically Google maps are more accurate world wide. So whereas Apple maps may have 'pockets' where it's good, as a whole, it's still very inaccurate - still to the point where they are not fixing issues reported on launch day (We still have shops that have been closed for 20+ years listed for example).

It's silly to declare "X is the best - FACT" as its more a case of "having tried both options, in my location X seems to give more accurate results".

Your milage may vary - no mapping app is "the best".

Do you have the evidence that Google maps are more accurate worldwide? I was just thinking that it would be good to have some objective comparison data so that posts like these don't trigger a whole bunch of anecdotes about getting lost somewhere (or not as the case maybe) and that must mean that its crap.

Stockholm Syndrome.

I recently has my daughter's first birthday party and 3 people got lost solely because Apple Maps sent them to the wrong location.

I don't plan on using Apple Maps for a very long time.

I know not one person with this problem.

I think for a lot of people transit is the #1 complaint about Apple Maps. Fortunately, Apple Maps will do transit in iOS 8, along with indoor location tracking and mapping.

Apple Maps does transit better than Google. With Google Maps you are locked into using just Google's transit. With Apple Maps, you are given choice. You can choose local transit apps which use data far more accurate than Google's. And you get to choose from lots of different apps for your transit data… even Google's.

It's still rubbish in the UK.

Dead right, rubbish is putting it mildly! It doesn't even have motorway junction numbers, so you can't tell which junction to look out for, until you may be too late and passed it.....

You cannot even move the map when approaching a major intersection to see which direction the planned route goes. All they've done in the later update is allow the map to pivot at the said junction, which isn't enough. Still too many errors to be useful.

No advance warning for correct lane changes, etc, etc, etc.

pull the finger out Apple for goodness sake.

Still prefer Google Maps, POI is really really really rubbish. For example, the local gas station that is gone for 10 years is still in Apple Maps. And the local hardware store is not really local, about 50 miles further.

Google Maps still trumps Apple Maps for accuracy, detail, and traffice updates. But it loses out on integration and user-friendliness. I still prefer and use Gmaps, but when Safari/Mail/Contacts/Calendar opens something in Maps, I don't care and just use that.

The design is great. I love how it works on the lock screen.

However, I live in London. I cycle and I take public transport. When finding a route using Apple Maps and cycling, it intelligently switches from walking to driving directions as I'm travelling more than a few mph… Great. Totally useless in that instance.

I can't use Apple Maps at all until there is full support for London transport - Google Maps wins up and down at this.

I keep both of them on my iPhone and use Google Maps much more often. There is a new major road a few blocks from my house and google maps had it updated in a few weeks. For Apple maps, more than one years passed and the new road is still not there, I check on it from time to time, I may not start to use Apple maps as my main navigation tools until it fixes this problem.

I submitted roundabout 30 corrections regarding my hometown (Hamburg, Germany 1.90000 inhabitants) - none was corrected in 2 Years! And some shops gone out of business 8 years ago...

You all are aware that most people using iOS 6 or 7 have no idea that the map application is not Google anymore?
They all assume maps, search results and sometimes even mail just comes from Google.
Change their default to bing and most would not notice at all, they would still Google it...
So, do you really think they pay attention to wether there's a tiny Google in the bottom corner?

Apple still hasn't updated the highway change here, and Maps tell me I'm driving through farmers fields at 90km/h. I've notified them twice now. The new highway is coming up on it's one year anniversary. Still wrong.

Both Google and TomTom have made the update.

And don't get me started of Siri. It gets what I say right _maybe_ one in ten tries.

I'll use it for general directions, but if It's actually important, I'll use my TomTom or verify with Google Maps.

I haven't experienced some of the problems that other's have with Apple maps - I've often used it as a SatNav and it's been fine.

However, while out and about in central London, I chose Google Maps, simply because it provides directions when using public transport and walking.

Being stranded late one night, Google Maps told me what bus to get and where the bus stop was.

Well it is also the default app for maps in iOS...

If it was that popular no one would install google maps ect.

I still feels like Google maps is superior to Apple maps in Europe.

this isn't a big surprise..

For one its comes with iOS... Anything that's on device by default will be used most...

It may be more popular, but *only* because it's there by default, and some also say its better directions etc... and features etc,, but that unique to the individual rather as a whole..

does anyone know how to disable the rotate feature? I find this really cumbersome when using two fingers to pinch and zoom and the map starts to rotate around.
