How would it drive autonomously without the ability to change lanes? What if the lane you are in becomes exit only and you are not supposed to exit yet? Also if you really dont want to have it change a lane while in FSD you can use the blinkers to tell it dont do it. I do this sometimes if I think I am in the best lane and it wants to switch.

Anyway....it's amazing. It drives backs me out of my driveway parks me at work, at work it backs out and drives home and parks me in my driveway. Its amazing.

I think Rivian is going to have a much tighter timeline than Tesla. Telsa spent around 7 years just learning AI was the answer and the CPU needs to be AI optimized. Rivian is basically starting with this knowledge and an AI level 5 chip out of the gate. I think they will be 1-2 years behind Tesla if they execute well.

I think all Tesla needs to do is offer an option to only allow it to autocomplete required lane changes. I am so tired of it changing lanes back & forth like one of those hot-seated lunatics on the road. There is “sloth” mode but it isn’t the same.

There should be an option to completely, 100% disable optional lane changes, even in the FSD stack, at least until Tesla assumes full liability for its software decisions. In heavy traffic, the car can be a hot mess in FSD.

Editing to add: the blinker situation is a constant fight with the car at times. It can also be a headache since the car turns on the blinker anyway signaling to others that you are turning, even if you are not, and it will do this behavior repeatedly in my experience.
 
Integrating Apple Maps is what Rivian shouldn't done instead of selling their soul to Google.

Well done Ford. They are the best American carmaker for a reason.
 
Not sure how Ford is going to hit a 30K price point. The Mach-E looses more than its total selling prices every time one drives off the lot.. Meaning if they sold a 60K car at 120K they would just break even. Infact they would actually be profitable with EV sales if they just rebranded a EV from a competitor and sold at Cost +. I own 3 EV's so i aint a hater.. Just dont see how Ford can profitably get to a 30K price point.
 
Apple Maps has sure come a long way since its inception — when it was telling people to drive onto airport properties and make turns on taxiways in order to get to the terminals.

As a longtime Google Maps user I’ve recently tried Apple Maps. I prefer the Apple Maps UI as I found it easier to read at a glance. Unfortunately, I have found the Apple Maps directions to be subpar, giving me routes that are significantly longer than a better routing.

I don’t know if you are sincere but at least in the last years in the zone where I live split in two countries, Apple Maps are quite perfect and public transport are impressive. But Hej we are on MacRumors so attacking everything Apple is normal

Apple Maps is as good or better than Google Maps every time I use it, the complaints about it are way off the mark. Independent tests show that is true.

Apple Maps looks much better , I have no issue with the routing and the traffic jam alerts (LA!) are accurate- I do a lot of road trips from San Diego all the way to Oregon. Plus no privacy issues.

Apple maps is great if you have a good sence of directions and know when to ignore it, but trusting it, not a chsnce

These cars are to be built on an entirely new platform designed for highly efficient manufacturing. Several carmakers already sell products in this price range, so it's far from a pipe dream for Ford. More like a necessity. The MME was their first EV.

Speaking for myself, my 40 mile, mostly highway commute usually takes 1 hour-1:15 each way (depending on traffic) by car. Public transportation would take over 2 hours each way (assuming no delays) and involve:
  • Walking to a bus stop (5 minutes)
  • Bus ride to subway (10 minutes)
  • Subway to train station (15 minutes)
  • Train from city 1 to city 2 (45 minutes)
  • Wait for right bus (30 minutes)
  • Bus ride to closest bus stop (10 minutes)
  • Walk from bus stop to work (10 minutes)
In the Tesla - get in, buckle seatbelt, turn on podcast, hit “start FSD” button and get driven to work/home in a little more than an hour.

Meanwhile, I’m in my own space, I don’t have to walk when the weather is bad, I’m not crammed in a bus/subway car, I don’t get stressed navigating stop and go traffic (which there is often a lot of) and arrive at work/home much more refreshed than I would have otherwise. It’s a steal as far as I’m concerned. Obviously YMMV.

What is wrong with sloth mode?
 
Unfortunately Apple Maps is still bad anywhere NOT in US. If the car is to be used in Europe or Asia there are gonna be issues. I really don’t understand why Apple is not doing their homework for so many years. Yes, Apple Maps offers beautiful experience, faster loading, no trackers, but it also gotta be more functional
 
It's gonna keep getting lost! I used Apple Maps last night to find a relatively new restaurant in town, it didn't not get me there properly. Switching to Google Maps did though. Somehow it's still flawed after all these years.
