Apple Maps today gained comprehensive transit directions for Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, in the largest single combined update to its European coverage thus far.

apple-maps-sweden-denmark.jpg

The coverage includes train, tram, and bus routes in the capital cities of each country, including Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Helsinki, as well as funicular connections where available and transit links across borders.

Apple has yet to update its official list of locations for which Maps offers Transit data, but the information is already live across Europe.

Google Maps has supported transit directions for several years now, but Apple Maps has been steadily catching up with detailed routing information in recent years.

Transit coverage began in 2015 with an initial rollout in Baltimore, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and China. Since then, Apple has expanded the feature to many other regions around the world.

(Thanks, Bernd and Noah!)

Ok, so I just tried this with the route I take every day. It tells me to go off the train a station too early and then walk for 3.3 Km when I could just continue to the next station and take a buss that would drop me less than 100 m from my destination. Google maps gives me the correct path. (This is in Sweden)

No buses.
Useless.
Far too slow and poor rollout unfortunately :(

Edit: buses included, was just not able to see them from top view. Very nice!

Check if Apple Health setting is on in options;-)

Works in other Finnish cities too, at least in Turku. It's about 150km west from Helsinki.

Initially looks very fine her in Denmark.

Includes busses and routes outside Copenhagen. Also functional in Maps app on Mac. Finally, we´ve been waiting a long time for this..

Just checked one trip against Rejseplanen.dk - a long time national and stable webservice/app for transits, and Apple Maps suggest exactly the same trip. Could be an integration/data from them, I guess.

Well I'll be damned, didn't expect Finland (or at least Helsinki) to get some love this "early"! Good stuff.

Up to you, but you can report it to Apple. They’re pretty good about fixing these, and the app usually comes back to tell you it’s been fixed within a week.

Hey Apple, please update your maps app in the Caribbean. Countries such as Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica and St.Lucia badly needs updating.

Apple maps is garbage. I’ve reported that my location data is incorrect over and over to no avail. I clicked on a nearby store and reported their address community name as incorrect and they fixed that but still left the rest of the community with the wrong name. It’s like pulling teeth to try and get them to fix something

Pretty impressive. Even reports the VR delays in real time due to the freezing weather today. I like this a lot.

As a global maps app it's a lost battle, might work fine here and there, but they are so far behind in data. Street names and turns when too long take about half the screen's height, the arrow icon many times won't even sync real time with the map you have to constantly refresh it to keep up.

Maps still sucks in Denmark, yesterday I had to drive 100km straight on motorway. It wanted me to drive off the motorway before a overpass, over the overpass and into a town, then back and down onto the motorway again...

Traveling through northern Europe over the holidays we used both Google Maps and Apple Maps. Both gave accurate directions, but I preferred the details Apple Maps showed during navigation mode (it was easier to see what we were passing).

Why is Apple so behind Google on this and what takes them so long to expand their coverage? TERRIBLE.

Because the data is way better for Transit at least also I don't think the roll-out is going slowly anymore in the last 2 months they added over 5 countries.

Is it though? It started as one of the worst experiences I've had with any map app. It's now my go to at least here in Europe.

Nice to see Apple pushing forward on this, they keep making it better. Undoubtedly there will be bugs with some of the enhancements, like all big enhancements, but seems like they're getting better and quicker at fixing them these days.
