They don't seem to be aimed at switching anyone, they depict Mac users being happy in their own world. It portrays the Mac world as a secret shared among those who want to be a part of it.

That's a nice point of view. I know what you mean. And it does make you feel kinda special. :)
But Apple stated that they target a 10% marketshare. By now most people out there who Apple are targeting, already own a PC. So, IMHO Apple's commercials should be about making people switch, if they want marketshare to grow. Personally I believe that would only be possible by showing off what the G5 w/ Mac OS X can do. Brag about it. Even show Virtual PC in action....

Yeah, the current mac users are rabid and, for the most part, devoted. Apple's probably not going to lose too many of them to the evil empire as long as they don't do anything crazy. In order to achieve that 10% goal, they're going to have to target people who are currently PC users. The PC users aren't nearly as devoted to the platform, and if they can be pulled back over to the light, then they'll joint the stable ranks of the Mac-faithful.

Once you go mac....:D

I think a G5 ad should be made with someone running some obscure piece of windows only software, then they get called to dinner/the other room/etc, so they quit Their VPC/real pc and kick on some music with their itunes.

They just need to find a piece of windows only software that VPC/real pc hauls ass on.

That's funny...I like it. :)

Speed and power are great, but...

I really think that the Apple ads should focus on the stability of OS X.

I tell my PC friends, remember the last time you shut down your PC and had forgetten to do one last thing? Now imagine never having to wait to shut down or start up again.

That's the kind of ad we need -- not this mine-is-faster-than-yours crud.

No crashes. No shut downs. No start ups. When you want your PowerBook on to check one small thing on the web, but you just shut the lid...simply open it. Ta-da!

It's by far the most used, most enjoyable and most distinguishing feature of the Mac to me.

(And it might just get those numbskulls in Redwood to try to make a *nix-based version of windows -- Stand back! She's gonna blow! :D )

My point exactly

I wonder though, are the Mac commercials meant to switch uninformed PC users?
They can't be meant to switch the uninformed because there aren't enough of any Apple ad out there for anyone but the informed to make a connection to. That was my point: I don't care what kind of ad it is there needs to be more of them before the uninformed will even give Apple a second thought.
