Yet people keep buying
Oddly enough, just yesterday I downloaded coconutBattery to check out the state of my three year old iPad Pro's battery. It's probably going to need a replacement in the next year or so, I estimate. (~83%)

So, I looked at what a new iPad Pro would bring me. And the cost.

I'm sure the newer models are faster and in some ways cooler, but ~$1300 versus $99 for a new battery ended that thought trail very quickly.

However, in general I think you're right. Many people are just itchy for the newest thing. Human nature, I suspect, along with subtle persuasion from Apple and the media. There should probably be a statue of Edward Bernays somewhere on Apple's campus.

Battery replacements are a really good value IMO. I use them regularly on iPads, iPhones, and watches. My MBP battery generally lasts 7+ years so I've never paid for a battery service on a laptop.

That's what people said about the iPhone as well. Now all people do is complain. You'll never please everyone.

Complaining about anything, especially on public forums, helps a lot of people feel better. It's that little burst of power that helps start one's day.

I'm not sure I'd be down for a thinner iPad. I really like the form factor of my M1 iPad Pro and if they're able to reduce some of the components and increase real estate, they should keep the same set up and just include a larger battery. I'd love an iPad running an M1 or M2 or whatever processor with the battery life my M1 MBP has.

Either way, I'm pretty content with mine and if they go thinner or change the style/form factor/frame/whatever, it'll likely delay my next iPad purchase for quite a bit.

To me the iPad Pro 11" is just the perfect size. I don't really want thinner bezels (don't want my hands to block the screen while holding it), or a thinner chassis (too bendable). Maybe it could be a tad lighter, but I never get fatigued while holding it. Maybe it would be cool to get it under 1 lb just for marketing.

I look forward to OLED. Blooming is terrible on my 2021 12.9” iPad Pro. I actively avoid using my iPad Pro in low-light settings because of how annoying blooming is. Blooming is much reduced on the 2021 16” MacBook Pro, but it’s still noticeable. I prefer blooming over the gray blacks of the LCD screens, but it still feels like an in-between technology before we get to OLED where there is no blooming.

It would be nice to see the iPads get lighter and have longer battery life too. If thinner displays helps that be achieved, that’d be great. I doubt you can reduce weight and increase battery size though.

You'll like OLED. I have a Samsung tablet with OLED and an absolutely gorgeous screen. Though even OLED can have some bloom with black backgrounds. It's not horrible, but it is noticeable. (I use mine in a low light room)

My plan is to ride out my 2017 12.9 iPad Pro until it stops getting iPadOS updates and I will likely use it a year more without updates. Hopefully by then this iPad is ready. Considering the 2017 iPad Pro came with the A10 Fusion, I suspect Apple is likely to drop support by next year.

OLED's become a relatively older technology with some companies moving onto micro-led now. Apple's taking their time implementing OLED Panels into iPads and MacBooks. Really should have been implemented throughout the whole product line by now imo.
Not true at all. OLED's are still the best displays and will be for a while especially with new innovation like QD-OLED and JOLED - Ink Jet OLED. Some companies are using MINI LED now but OLED is still superior to MINI LED besides brightness. MICRO LED is much harder to produce and yields are terrible now even on huge 100+ inch screen which are easier to make. It estimated that micro led's wont make it into the consumer tv market at a "decent" price (Under 20K) until 2030. Small high resolution screens are even harder to produce and you wont see them until even later.

Samsung is the only company selling anything micro led and the prices are 80K for a 89 inch and 100K for a 114inch tv ... I'm not even sure if you can even buy them yet even if you had money to burn. The yield rates have supposedly been atrocious

The iPad is thin enough. Give me a landscape camera and then we can talk.
Seriously! The camera placement is like a relic on the iPad Pro and mini, especially considering the Apple smart (expensive) keyboards only hold it in landscape. Whenever I have video calls, classes or conferences it’s awkward. More so than on a phone in landscape as the distance from center screen to the camera is much farther.

I never said OLEDs weren't good, I mentioned they should be implemented into all their devices right now. My point was OLED have been around for a while and Apple are still using older technology in some of their products. I'm perfectly ok with OLED while companies perfect Micro LED.
