Lol, I know... "suffer" is relative, could be a lot worse.

Exactly, the pricing on the M2 Pro Mac Mini is really dumb next to the Studio. Apple will need to tweak the price points somehow when the M2 Studio comes out... easiest thing is probably increase the base price and have it start at 64GB RAM minimum, that would remove overlap with the Mini that can only go to 32GB.
I gotta ask… What’s wrong with overlap? In fact I think some overlap is good. Some might want the extra processor power in the Max over the Pro without needing the extra RAM. Forcing people to get the extra RAM if they don’t need it is just the sort of thing people complain Apple sometimes does, and in that case, it would be justifiable I think. So I really hope they don’t remove the 32 RAM option on the Studio. Nothing wrong with overlap.

I was referring to the price overlap. At the current prices a base M2 Max Mac Studio would be less expensive than a specced out M2 Pro Mac Mini... which makes no sense. I'd rather Apple eliminate the 32gb option for the Studio than increase the base model price.

Well, agreed to a point.
Base model Studio M1 Max, 32/512 = $1799
Maxed out Mini M2 Pro, 32/512 = $1829.

So it's essentially $30 more to swap the M1 Max, 2 USB-C ports, SD Card and larger form factor, for an M2 Pro and smaller form factor.

Arguably the M2 Pro (more CPU less GPU) is faster than the M1 Max (less CPU more GPU) except in GPU-intensive tasks, so it's really a question of what they do with the M2 versions of the Studio to compare apples to apples (which I believe is what you're alluding to anyway).

I think it makes *some* sense. It makes a little more sense when you see that you can have either the 12-core M2 Pro with 16GB or the 10-core M2 Pro with 32GB for significantly less, and it's only the combination of the two that is more. Not to completely negate your point. I agree it's a bit weird that that particular combination is more than the base Studio, assuming that if they release the M2 Studio versions they keep the corresponding pricing the same.

I think if they change anything they should reduce the highest mini pricing by even just $50, rather than lose the 32GB option on the Studio. Not that I particularly care personally as I'm not in the market for either, but if I was, I know I'd prefer to have the option.

(The machines I really don't understand are the 13" M2 MacBook Pro, and the weird array of iPads but those are different topics of course).

That's the dilemma. The Studio should just NOT have an M1 at this point. It's ridiculous. Either EOL and drop the price or put in the M2. The "current" Studio should not get its single core CPU stats pwned by a Mac Mini Pro. I'm looking at M2 Pro Mini 10 Core 32/1TB - That totals $1899. Studio M1 Max 32/1TB is showing $1979.

I really like the form factor of the Studio and want to do both CPU and GPU tasks, but wouldn't want to buy it now that the M1 has been supplanted in all machines other than the iMac. Put the M2 in the Mac Studio or don't rake us over the coals on memory/HD upgrades for the Mini Pro.

I won't be happy with EITHER of the machines I'm looking at if an M2 Studio graces us with its presence in the next few months. So, for now, no 🎲🎲.

Totally agree on that 13" M2 MacBook Pro!😂

Exactly. I'm ready to buy but Apple won't get my money until they put the M2 into the Studio. And I believe they will this year despite Mark Gurman's dumb rumors that only came from inside his own head.

What's your data source? I disagree with the video and agree with Gurman that they will wait for the M3. No sense in doing anything until the Mac Pro is released. But all is speculation of course.

How about a Mac Studio with an M3 AND the Mac Pro with an M3 on upgradable boards at the same time.

Jobs would have made it happen.

At this point I'm pretty much convinced that corporate buyers are the sole reason this machine exists. There's no sensible reason that I can think of for a consumer to get one (although I'm sure some do), but corporate buying decisions are a totally different thing.

He correctly predicted that a new Mac Studio would be released at WWDC. Changed his opinion only a few days before the event but that is what would be expected as new information came in. Maintains his >80% accuracy record.

LOL you can't be serious. Look, I'll admit he got a lot right that I thought he was wrong about, the Mac Pro in particular. I don't care that he didn't know the Mac Pro was being announced at WWDC, he got the specifics right a while back (that it was going to be an incredibly stupid and pointless M2 Ultra design)... but he did NOT get the Mac Studio right at all. Changing his mind 3 days before WWDC when other people had been predicting the M2 Studio for weeks or months does not count!!!!

This is his stupid mind-wipe ray in action again! You're admitting he's erasing your memory of him being completely wrong.

He is 2nd ranked in accuracy after Ross Young at 86%.
