Does this work with the Macbook as i want to connect it to my tv,

Its this one http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObj...Xzsd2OnVbhZ1NkC7rof/20.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3

I just want to make sure it will, although it doesnt say in the descrption there, when ordering a macbook it says on the options screen under the Adapters part that:

Note: You can connect your MacBook to a standard television or projector that has an S-Video or a composite video input. Simply purchase a mini-DVI to Video adapter, also available from the Apple Store.

But i just want to make sure it will work as it doesnt say its macbook compatible on the actual product page,

Also this does allow sound aswell on my TV from my macbook when using this?

I think Apple have just forgotten to update the product page for the adaptor. It will work fine.

This is for video only. DVI does not carry sound so there is no-way a mini-DVI port can pass sound out to the adaptor. You need to run a standard stereo connection from the headphones jack (or use optical out to an amp from the same jack).

You probably don't need anything so expensive. Look for a minijack to RCA cable.

Here's a nice one:

Here's a cheapie:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...Id=2032058&kw=mini+jack+rca&parentPage=search

Here's an adapter if you have a spare RCA cable lying around:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...Id=2032058&kw=mini+jack+rca&parentPage=search

I realize you're in the UK, but it shouldn't be hard to find those or cables similar to them. Just look up 'mini jack RCA' on an electronics website and it should give you something.

Heres the first one i found http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0

Is that the right one?

So then that goes into the headphone port right?

Then i also get the mini dvi to video adapter and then i should have both video and sound being produced?

Just to reiterate what gloss said, if you're buying regular cables, stay away from Apple's prices.

The absolute best place online to purchase is http://www.monoprice.com. I just purchased a 10 foot DVI cable and a DVI to HDMI converter and am very pleased with the quality. Good luck!

iMac mini DVI does carry sound

I have just brought a new iMac yesterday (6th Jan 2011) and I can confirm that the mini DVI port does carry audio there are cables available in the Apple store made by iWires that are mini DVI - HDMI that will connect directly from your iMac, Macbook (post May2010), Macbook pro (post March 2010) and Mac mini, into your HDMI port on your TV and work with both audio and video. If at first you don't get any Audio just go into "Sound" in system preferences and change the output to HDMI - TV. The cables cost £24.95.

1) Macs don't use DVI anymore, but MiniDisplayPort.
2) DisplayPort supports audio.
3) DVI doesn't.

Ergo, older Macs that use DVI don't support audio out. Newer Macs with MDP do.

Display port

I have just found out the pre 2010 MBP (mine's late 2009) do NOT output audio via the mini display port even though the local Apple store sold me the Min/disp to HDMI adapter.
As I only have one spare HDMI on the monitor I seem to be stuffed.
Even if I fed the video signal to a HDMI input and audio to a spare audio in I doubt the monitor would see/hear the audio (if I select HDMI) as that input is associated with a composite video input.

The only way I can find to do it is via a rather expensive combiner unit.

I cannot believe Apple made such a basic error.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers
