The beta has been giving expiration notifications the last couple days and all it takes is downloading the latest beta from developer.apple.com.

Unfortunately the notification only comes when the app is started so it's easy to miss. That might have caused some confusion with the "sudden" expiration notice...

It's kind of sad that folks would be so negative about the Apple team for a few hours delay in a new service.

Agreed. They should be mad that it is only in the US. Just like the whole self service and buy online and pick up at a store is only in the US.

I can't help but wonder how many folks are naysaying this delay of a product they can't even use cause they aren't in the US.

they opened the doors and thus far no one has come to the party. That's not Apple's fault. They can't force folks to adopt the standard

Really, it's an open standard? What standards body has approved it? Where is the documentation for third party developers on various platforms to connect with Facetime?

Anybody saying that Tim Cook is at fault or Steve Jobs wouldn't have done this, are ridiculous. Do you honestly think Steve Jobs would release iTunes Match on schedule even if it wasn't completely ready yet?

Yes :)

This proves they learned their lesson from Antennagate.
Thanks Apple

The lesson of dealing with a bunch of folks that don't understand how cell phones work and were hyping up an issue that even Consumer Reports linked to being in an area with ****** ATT service. an issue that affected like 1/10th of 1% of ATT users and less than that anywhere outside of the US.

yeah it taught them a lot about releasing software before its ready.

Yes. The OP is wrong. 10.5.1 is chugging away nicely for me.

The previous beta was giving expiration notices, so I logged in and downloaded 10.5.1 - but that was several days ago.

just reinstall the latest beta over your current install and it works fine. Did that the other day when I got the you have XX hours until this copy expires message.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Everyone who is saying "Steve would never let this happen! If he was still in charge it would be out no matter what!" Is an idiot.

That is the exact opposite of what he would do. If you actually read his Bio, you would know that Steve consistently delayed products to make sure things were perfect, and knew that polish is what makes products successful.

Obviously the product is not ready for release and would inherently receive more complaints then praise. Since iTunes Match isn't ready, I would bet the house that Steve would be the first person the delay it.

Get your facts straight. He actually was one of the few people that thought the customer wasn't always right and Most of the time he was right.

C'mon, ladies. It's something we have to pay for, unlike iOS5 or Lion. We can afford to wait a few more hours.

well it looks like it wont be out today either because the time has come and gone.. its past 10:00 PT when they normally do updates.

Anyone recall the White Iphone debacle. I hope that does not happen to iTunes Match. I am really looking forward to using the service.

What I really think irks everyone, at least it does me, is that they just don't say anything. If they would just come out as say, "sorry everyone, we miss calculated, but the service is going to be better and stronger due to this delay" most of us would be happy they at least acknowledged that they goofed.

companies are ran by humans, so they are thus endeared by the same flaws. people forget that sometimes.

We all know that at 1 PM on a TUESDAY or WEDNESDAY, Apple releases software updates.
Just so happens October ended, its the first week of November and it's Tuesday and tomorrow is Wednesday. Hmmm.. I wonder what could come out at 1 PM today or tomorrow.....

what time zone?

Everyone was notified by Apple when the latest beta was available. If you are going to beta test at least stay current on the betas. Heck you need the latest beta to just USE iTunes Match after it was reset the last time (Well, use as of last Thursday).

But the people who started the "OMG it's expired!" nonsense take the cake. :)

There IS NO sudden expiration notice for the latest beta release of 10.5.1b3. It came out Oct. 11th and works fine.

I wish people that play with this would at least stay current. The headline on MR is WRONG.

Got that arn ?

I actually redownloaded and installed the iTunes 10.5.1 beta with match this morning and it worked just fine. No expiration message (I was getting the expiration message before I reinstalled.)

This is a joke!

Steve wouldn't have let this slipped! Well done Tim!

First task, big F for fail!

Also, where is ALAC or an update for all of our existing music collection to get it up to FLAC like Android. In fact, you should be going one step further and have it at 24 bit level (recording studio quality). iPod is now 10 years old and you should be leading the away here, not falling behind Google; it's a joke!

And where is the 220gb iPod classic which should be out by now! Infact we saw the 80gb iPhone on the Gizmodo prototype; we were expecting 64/80 last year. We were expecting 128 gb in the iPad in Jan together with a high res display. Instead we got a thinner iPad 1.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH APPLE - can someone pull their finger out please! You're meant to be the leader in this field and instead you have your consumers begging and telling you what to do and what we need. Please pull your socks up!

Surprised that this article is STILL incorrect. The current beta HASN'T EXPIRED. But you've succeeded in creating the appearance of a problem where there isn't one . . .
And it is being repeated ad nauseam all over the internet. Wonderful.

Steve let many product releases slip. If a product isn't ready (in their eyes) it simply doesn't ship.

Really not sure what you are talking about here. ALAC can be played on most iDevices if you are intending to mean they don't support this lossless format.

If you are referring to Google music, magically upgrading your songs to FLAC, perhaps you should read exactly what they do to your own FLAC files when you upload them to Google's music service.

Google Music said:
** FLAC, ogg and aac files are transcoded to 320kbps mp3.

Though, perhaps I may have misunderstood exactly what you were talking about here.

I would rather have the real deal delayed, rather than a "met the deadline" stuttering mistake that frustrates users. IMHO, it will be worth the wait to get a product that works.

..And it begins. I expected Apple to go downhill with SJ out of the picture, but not so soon.

Is this post a joke?

As a few others have mentioned, you obviously know nothing about Steve Jobs if you think he wouldn't have delayed a product release if it wasn't done. Steve was a perfectionist to a fault. He spent weeks choosing the exact shade of grey for the first Mac and the color of the walls of the factory making it.

Not to mention: Leopard, the white iPhone, push notifications. And no doubt countless other announcements were delayed that we don't know about.
