I guess I'll have to move iBooks out of my CrApps folder now (where I store all the non-removable but utterly useless to me apps).

Be interested in knowing this, too. Currently, once non-iBooks eBooks have been migrated from iTunes, there isn't a method of syncing them to devices ( there is a fix for this, though ). I would hazard a guess the same is now true for all audiobooks.

What is the fix you speak of? I have a ton of non-iBooks ebooks that won't sync, and it drives me nuts!

Basically, you remove iBooks from your Mac ( I used AppCleaner ) and add the eBooks back into iTunes and it reverts to the old behaviour. It might take a couple of restarts for iTunes to realise that iBooks is now missing. The only issue, is that every time there's an Mac OS update, you have to remove iBooks again. Works, though.... TBH, it's a huge PITA and I can't believe that Apple didn't think it through ( or maybe I can, as macpeach55 pointed out, it's probably to "encourage" you to buy books from them ).

Makes sense and I hope that they do this with their other apps across the board.

While they're at it, I shouldn't have to recalibrate my compass every time I want to use the level, lol. Details matter!

How do you get such borrowed books on your phone? If it's via a library's app, it's definitely going to continue living in that app. If you're borrowing physical audiobooks from the library and ripping them into iTunes to listen via your phone, then you need to tag them as audiobooks. If you're doing something else I'd be interested to know about it. :)

Here's how to tell iTunes that a recently ripped audiobook isn't music:
Once they're ripped into your library, likely along with all your music, highlight all the tracks and open the "Get Info" window. Go to the "Options" tab and change "media kind" to Audiobook.

Maybe you already knew how to distinguish audiobooks in your iTunes library, but I only discovered it recently and figured I'd share for all. I imagine doing this will support the shift into iBooks with 8.4.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the tip!

Does it mean I won't be able to sync audiobooks to store locally on the apple watch? I was planning on creating a playlist of audiobooks and syncing with the AW.

I don't think Audible includes chapter titles, either... I feel like they just give track numbers.

That is correct. Often they don't correlate to the actual chapter either, but I think this the publishers doing, as I've seen this happen in the cd format as well.

While they're merging apps, I'm sure Notes, Reminders and Voice Memos could be one app.
Oh no, let's keep them separate. I use Notes and Reminders almost every day and I like the simple interfaces. I don't want to have to press on different tabs or menus before starting an actual action.

That's the first time I've seen the current version of iBooks (I'm still on iOS 6 and refuse to update). My reaction? This: "Wow, that's their idea of beauty? A dull grey background with no sense of why there's even any background at all?? Yuck!"

iOS 7 was a disaster. Why do we even have retina resolution? Just for photos and sharp text? iOS 6 is lovely too look at and is sane design for the human visual system. It's successor is anything but.

Bad idea. Now the iBooks app will be bigger and slower.
Audiobooks should have their own app.
For iOS, two apps are better than one.
Some people, specially children may want to listen to an Audiobook while reading the eBook, or run any other app.
Also, iBooks gets slow and sometimes crashes with large eBooks, specially if these have a lot of annotations. Even on the iPad Air. I don't want to have to buy a new iPad just to run iBooks.

Totally. I can't believe that in 8.2 and 8.3 - even the public releases - that TV shows are no longer grouped by show. Everything is grouped by season number. And this right when they set it up so episodes automatically play on after the other. 4x10 of one show plays immediately after 4x10 of another show. :(

I have hundreds of movies and they are just listed as endless poster art. No searching, no filter by tag/genre. Its silly.

How about they fix the playback problem through iBooks so it doesn't reset to the beginning of the book each morning and fix the problem with fast forward so when it changes chapters from the first one it actually tells the time left and time elapsed.

I just noticed that one of my imported audiobooks has been moved into iBooks from iTunes. I found that odd because I have several others that were imported the same way and a few other purchased audiobooks that are still in iTunes but not in iBooks.

1 - How do I transfer audiobooks from iTunes to iBooks?
2 - Will iBooks for Mac also support audiobooks in El Capitan or are audiobooks still going to be in iTunes on the Mac?

I can see that Apple is in a transition but this is getting confusing.

EDIT: I found out how to do it!

In iTunes, you can pick up an audiobook and as you drag it, your playlists and devices will appear on the side. Drop it in iPhone. When you add an audiobook to an iOS device in this way, they're added to iBooks.

Does this apply to OSX as well? I tried to import an audiobook I have that I ripped from a CD into iBooks without success

I've never seen this in iOS 8 or iOS 9 and I have 37-different TV series on my iPhone/iPad.
Shows are grouped by show and then by season.
S04E10 is followed by S04E11 of the same show.
I think you may have a tagging problem.
I use Subler for all of my TV tagging.
When I was still in Windows I used Meta-X.

You import into iTunes and then you need to select the files, select Get Info, select Options, and change the media type to Audiobook. Then when you sync the book will show up in iBooks on the device.

So it shows up in iBooks on the iPhone/iPad but NOT on the iBooks on the Mac, am I correct?

Next app: videos. Oh please fix the videos app

Seriously! I hope they do too. Maybe they're waiting until the rumored streaming service is ready before they bother with it, but I was still disappointed that it wasn't improved this year.

What improvements would you like?
I don't see them adding more supported file formats and I don't want a video store incorporated -- we already have iTunes.
It plays videos. What else is there to do?

I'd like them to reverse their restriction on square artwork and it would be cool if it could automatically seek out and display missing subtitles but I really can't think of much else I'm dissatisfied with.
Maybe a better scrubber.
Maybe be able to start and stop videos from the lock screen like you can with music but then I could also see that being very unpopular for some.
