Apple Music is celebrating Pride this year with a new space that's designed to highlight the LGBTQ+ community both in June and year-round. For Pride month, Apple plans to release new content each Sunday that focuses on Equality, Resilience and Community.

Content will include Pride Talks, which are short original videos that include conversations with Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Ben Platt, MNEK, girl in red, and more, plus guest-curated playlists featuring music selected by Hayley Kiyoko (taking over Love Her, Lover), Mykki Blanco (RESIST!), Troye Sivan (Strike a Pose), Tayla Parx (Here 'n' Queer), and Claud (Thrive).

Apple also plans to feature exclusive DJ mixes and Apple Music radio shows and specials that will air on Apple Music 1, Apple Music Hits, and Apple Music Country. There will be Apple Music TV 24-hour takeovers on June 6, 13, 20, and 27 as well.

Apple now has a dedicated Apple Music Pride page where users can find all of the videos, playlists, and interviews celebrating Pride. The page will be available year-round.

Pride month is a major celebratory month for Apple, and each year the company celebrates in various ways. This year, Apple has released new Apple Watch Pride bands and watch faces, and there will also likely be features for the App Store and Apple TV+ in the coming weeks.

In past years, Apple has marched in the annual San Francisco Pride parade, which is one of the biggest Pride events in the United States. The parade was canceled last year and it has also been canceled this year, but Apple will likely return to the parade if it's reinstated in 2022.

This kind of virtue signaling helps with the bottom line. The kind you are talking about would hurt it. Significantly.

Apple is like most companies....they're going to do what best effects the P&L.

When Apple does too much people complain they should stay out of politics and focus instead on making computers. When they do too little, people complain they‘re just a company.

The best thing Apple can do is stay out of these forums.

It’s a shame they don’t support other human rights in the same way they support pride.

There’s always someone pointing out there are other issues or goals to fight for.
True, but that doesn’t take away from what they’re doing here.

That’s kind of the problem with virtue signaling and “inclusion”. No matter how inclusive you are someone will always feel left out and it’s a race to the bottom for attention and the spotlight, and arguably becomes more political than about the issues at hand.

That being said, I appreciate what they’re doing. Stick with one or a couple of causes and put all your support into them. That’s how you show you truly care.

I think they are hypocrites when they get into these things. They pimp what they can to make money and get people to talk about how progressive, etc they are, but when it comes to standing up to China on literally anything.....crickets.

And go look on the China version of the Apple online store and pull up the new woven pride watch band and run the text of the Overview section through Google Translate.

Here is the US version:
Weaving together the colors of the Pride flag, the Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop band features a unique, stretchable design that’s ultracomfortable and easy to slip on and off your wrist. Created by weaving 16,000 recycled polyester yarn filaments around ultrathin silicone threads using advanced precision-braiding machinery, then laser cutting the band to an exact length for a custom fit. The band offers a soft, textured feel and is both sweat and water resistant.

Apple is proud to support LGBTQ advocacy organizations working to bring about positive change, including Encircle, Equality North Carolina, Gender Spectrum, GLSEN, the Human Rights Campaign, PFLAG National, the National Center for Transgender Equality, SMYAL, and The Trevor Project in the U.S., and ILGA World internationally.

Here is the China version:
The rainbow version of the woven single-lap watch has a colorful color scheme and a unique elastic design. It is very comfortable to wear and can be easily removed from the wrist or put on again. The strap is made of 16000 recycled polyester yarn filaments wrapped with ultra-fine silicone filaments, which are interlaced with an advanced precision braiding machine, and then laser cut to obtain a precise length, achieving a tailor-made fit. The strap is soft and rich in texture, and has anti-perspiration and water-resistant properties.

Everything they do to highlight causes and "take stands" is all a part of their marketing strategy. I lean more toward the direction of wishing they would just focus on making the computers better and let people that advocate for these causes take the lead on doing the things they see will make the world better, but corporate virtue signaling seems to be here to stay.

Man, can't Boy George get a break! When will Apple do a short pride documentary on him? Do you really want to hurt him?

You certainly raise some valid points but outside of the China issue where are they being hypocrites? The China situation is unavoidable at this point give how entrenched it is in the supply chain - but absolutely supporting Chinese censorship is a very bad stain on Apple at this point. I'm certain that not offending Chinese censors with product descriptions that include support of gay issues was a major factor in the differences but certainly 99% of Chinese consumers have zero idea what any of the organizations in the second paragraph even are so including them on the China site is silly.
I like that Apple has pride watch bands, and the Black Unity band, and the country specific bands during the olympics it's smart marketing. Long term, Apple does need to figure out a better place to draw the line between operations/profits and corporate ethics - their goto response of "we comply with local laws" is more and more at odds with their corporate ethics stance.

I skipped this year's "pride" bands because, outside of their use of colors, they didn't have any Pride symbolism. I wonder if it was a safe design choice that would let them sell it in markets where LGBTQ people don't really have rights. It just didn't say "pride" to me.

Very difficult to state a message of strong disapproval against this stance by Apple and against the ‘Pride’ movement in general without having my post removed so I’m being very careful with my words here.

Not everyone is able to respond to this thread due to the limitation but it should be known that the decision of Apple to support this movement in this way is a continued stain and disappointment to a large subset of Apples customers.

I remain strongly against 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ And against Apples decision to support them in this way. These views are my own.

Sure.. let's not "stain and disappoint"

How about live and let live and stop being so damned triggered. We should all accept diversity.

Shame on you and your outdated views.

Hey give China a break. I just saw today that they are now allowing families to have 3 kids. That’s progress from the days of them killing baby girls or giving them away to other countries. 🙄
