The downside of Apple Music with little ones: Lots of songs that aren’t mine.

Looking at you, Imagine Dragons and Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse soundtrack . . .

Let’s Go Everywhere by Medeski Martin & Wood can stay.

I already have smart playlists that let me shuffle how often I hear things depending on how much I like something, or if I've heard it too much to keep things fresh, but I like having this All Time one.

It's not just the most played songs however; my play counts vary widely in here. It's also not in order from highest to lowest play counts. I wonder what they're doing - maybe trying to get a representative sample of artists instead of including all the songs from a most played album or et. Would be interesting to know. I wonder if they're trying to make the specific order of songs flow as well.

Some of these songs I've never listened to, and some of my heavy rotation songs are not on here. I just don't get it ... why is Apple Music's algorithm so bad? Spotify is always Spot-on. I even tried using Apple Music exclusively over the past couple of years and slapping that "suggest less" button and excluding certain playlists (like my run tracks) so that it could really hone in on what I like, but nope. It's awful. When I go over to Spotify, I could choose any one of the Daily Playlists and every single song is a banger for me.

Oh man. Yes. Apple, let us edit this list, man. "Can't Stop the Feeling" is number two 😣

My list cannot be true. There are songs in my list that I don't even know. The top 3 are songs I like, but that I don't play that often. The songs that I listen to most are not in the top 50. Looking at "Top 25 Most Played" on my MacBook, the overlap between the two lists is very limited. Btw, I'm pretty sure that the "Top 25 Most Played" does not accurately reflect my listening habits either. My most popular songs are all missing from both lists.

Fun fact. "Top 25 Most Played" shows my alarm sound that I have added via Apple Music as played 225 times. This is probably how often I have had that alarm wake me up ;-)

... Replay All Time shows a comprehensive list of the top 100 songs across all subscriber years. ...

Top 100, eh? In that case, maybe I'll have to check and see if they've finally improved the randomize algorithm.

There was a time, not so long ago, that playing one of my personal playlists on random with over 200 tracks in it resulted in the same 30 or 40 track subset playing over and over... even across sessions. Which suggests to me that "random" was actually... not. The way I definitively identified the issue was by turning on play counts in iTunes on my Mac.

I’m really enjoying this new playlist. It’s actually very accurate. There are some song I haven’t heard in a while but used to listen to all the time, which is a welcome surprise.

I’d say, for me, it’s pretty accurate and I definitely know every song. I wonder what’s causing the discrepancy on other ppls playlists.
