Note the S, meaning multiple things!!! I bet its iPods and a music service score!!!

Wouldn't that be more like "Songs to your ears"?

From LoopRumors.com:

New iPod Inforumor Revealed

As LoopRumors reported, Apple has been testing a new Music Service for downloading songs from the internet that will be launched alongside new iPods (see April 8th below) within two weeks.

A reader submits this article which was published in a French financial newspaper called "La Tribune." It mentions Pascal Cagni, Vice President of Apple Europe. It's not the first time he makes such mistakes, as he announced iCal and iSync in advance. The necessary translation is as follows:

Apple, whose R&D investments increased from $300m in 1998 to $500m this year, is especially counting on the new version of their iPod digital player. It will feature a new format (AAC) more efficient than MP3, as well as the ability to download songs from the long awaited paying online music service. "We are discussing with all majors of the music business" is confirming Pascal Cagni, refusing to comment, but anyway noting that that the problem will be to fight "habits for free music". But Apple is anticipating this since this service "makes it very complicated to move copies from an iPod to another."

Maybe the announcement is on a Monday because Jobs has managed to get it into a magazine again ( starts with a T and rhymes with IME) - and has to release it on Monday because the Magazine comes out on Monday.

I know I'll be watching their website Sunday evening...for those of you that remember the last mistake.

Another thought I had in relation to something I read somewhere else - Could Music stores (HMV, Music World) buy a couple of macs, let you pick your own music and burn a CD? (Assuming this is allowed with the service) Will Apple make this exclusivly for home use? I bet stores could make some serious coin if you could walk in, pay $3CDN base cost plus whatever the songs cost the store. And this would sure give Apple some serious advertising!

Also, if you consider the timing of this...say the Windows version came in 6 months. Theoretically, before then, we should see new Apple Power Macs (and possible PowerBooks) that are 64-bit, which will be much more compelling to potential switchers, so maybe Apple thinks this + new machines could lead to lots of switchers.

I must agree with this point.

Apple has one shot at winning over the general populous of PC users. To introduce a flawed and buggy service to a large market at first would really put off the possible PC switcher. Bad first impression.

Regardless though. It NEEDS to have a PC version if not now, in the near future. It woul dbe needed to maintain the Record Companies interest in supporting the Service.

3 percent of a "Desktop Computer Market" is peanuts to the Record Companies Eyes.

If a PC variant of iTunes does not appear with the Service premiere, it should appear around the same time of a new desktop (new processor) introduction. Especially a processor with 64bit technology. It would really make Apple shine and be the dangling carrot that Joe PC (L)user may need to switch.

A version of iTunes for the PC would go against what Apple has done thus far. Because I've heard of many people that have switched to the Macintosh because of the iApps. I can hardly wait for Apple's announcement(s).:D This will give me even more reasons to convince my Aunt that Macs are better than Pc's!:p

Is there ANY chance at all that the new ipods could have an FM tuner built in?? That is the one thing that is missing from their current features line-up ...

benoit.

Oh geez, you guys really think there is going to be an iTunes for Windows? Without the iApps being exclusively Apple, buying a Mac instead of a PC loses it's appeal. If they charge for iTunes, say $10, that's one thing, but to give it away for free to Windows users? Why not develop a small, stripped down version of iTunes that basically acts as a downloader to allow PC's to use the service, but not all the features of a regular iTunes program?

Yes, Apple will get more people to use their new music service, but when you read a magazine that reviews the iMac, one of the things they ramble on about is the iTunes program that comes with iMacs. What are they going to say when they know they can get the same program for their PC? The presence of iTunes does not chalk up as a 'pro' for buying an Apple. It doesn't become a 'con', but at least it weighs in as a factor for switchers to buy a more expensive Apple machine that helps you do everything better. I say give PC's a program that enables you to use the service, and listen to mp3's much like Winamp does, but not actually give them a fully functional iTunes. Or give them iTunes and show them all the menu options, but not make all the cool stuff accessible to them. :)

Dude, if you read my original message you would see I said the same thing..

"First, The Apple Music Service. This is obvious.
Secondly, New iPods.
Thirdly, iTunes 4 (AAC compatibility)
Fourthly, a scaled down version of iTunes for PC."

They need to have the iTunes app over to ensure that all functionality features of the new iTrax service work properly. If apple changes features of the service, PC users can be given updated software quicker. Again.. they can't screw around with this. It has to be working.. and it has to work perfectly... OR else Apple will be singing their own songs... namely a roy orbison tune... "Crying"...

Here is crossing fingers.

I hope they can pull this service off..

They are definitely creating the hype. that is a good start.

They better have some damn good promotion to get people to know about this service.. I mean LOTS of commercials.. a lot of magazine and poster ads.

Commercials should show and explain how easy the process is. Or people will just fluff it off.

I am speculating similar "switcher" type ads. Showing someone purchasing a song..

GENIUS!!:)

This idea:

1. Is groundbreaking

2. Bound to increase Apple's revenue and possibly computer marketshare

3. May entice Windows users to Switch, and...

4. HAS ALREADY BEEN PROPOSED!!

See, isn't it annoying to waste time re-reading something that was already posted earlier?

The same way that my post is reciting the same thing that "tYNS" post right above me says?

 Gawd, I hate it when people do this.

READ THE POSTS!!

BTW and back on topic, this will be awesome if it pans out this way.:D

Itraks?

Around january there were rumors of a finished app called Itraks which would feature music recording for the mac. I do not know what the odds are, but I do hope its released together with Itunes,Ipod and the music service. Then the music suite would be complete! :D

Maybe it's monday instead of tuesday, not because of Time (though this maybe a reason) but because it's about music and new music is always released on a monday...well it is in england...something to do with the charts getting compiled on a sunday.

I made the iTraks (iTrax?) connection in my mind when these rumors first appeared. I really hope Apple can create a good name for this new service. Keynote and Safari are wonderful....so I think they can do it. Then again, I think about iLife......

No way! My birthday is this Friday and I live in Arizona too! Does "snowy_river" mean you have ties to Australia? I am an Aussie too.

You are truly evil!

Time?

I for one am off Monday and can tell you I'll be watching the Apple page like a hawk. Can anyone speculate at a possible time? What times have these events been held at before?

Oh if only Apple would broadcast it on QuickTime!

PLEASE let there be new iPods introduced.

I too have been saving off since November .. this is a much awaited week!

I'm not too sure, though, about these ideas going around about a mini-iTunes for Windoze. Besides some benefits of providing their music service to a broader audience, what would convince them to take such a risky venture into the Windoze software world?

Universal purchase?

Purchasing Universal would potetinally harm a music download service. But what about this? I am not a business major but I see that many times a company is worth more split up than as a whole. Could Apple purchase Universal, then auction off its archives and artists to the remaining music companies? Apple could make a profit on its purchase and the remaining - I think I read 4 major music companies could increase their product lines. Your thoughts?
