Yeah. I really think they should've spun iTunes off a separate utility for library management and built Apple Music as a pure streaming app.

So much this

I'm still bummed that I can no longer use Retroactive to get iTunes on Sequoia+.

I was using that still up until last Fall and I miss it.

Apple Music tries to look like iTunes, but so much of the polish fit and finish isn't right and it's just a poor imitation.

Price and quality, no doubt about that! But don’t knock it if you haven’t even given it a try.
Two years ago I bought a Tesla with Spotify on board - thats why I switched from Apple Musik to Spotify (after many many years) - no regrets.

Unless you're using surround sound (Dolby Atmos and a system that supports that), any difference is in the gray area between "impossible to hear" or "tiny"

Now, I admit to have spent far too much on audio equipment - and I like seeing "lossless" when playing AM - it's not like the difference is huge or comparing Spotify to "muffled longwave radio" is anything but hyperbole.
Okay. Longwave radio *is* a little bit of hyperbole. But the difference is a vastly more than tiny. You don’t need a Dolby Atmos supporting system to hear the difference - you just need wired speakers. On my iMac, though Bose desktop speakers connected to the headphone jack, the difference between Spotify and Apple Music is enormous. Spotify genuinely sounds muffled in comparison.

Pretty happy with Qobuz
Same - although I switched back to buying tracks instead of streaming. Got tired of songs randomly becoming unavailable on me (on Apple Music—haven't even tried Qobuz streaming).

But then how would they try to capture the iTunes customer base into using Apple Music? There's advertisements all over iTunes Store for Apple Music. It's less bad on Mac now, but it's still horrible on iOS with banners on every page. And all links from iTunes go to Apple Music.

Same here ... I was just about to say that myself

Oh I know, i used to use Spotify and then the Music app for local files, i switched to AM now as my gf uses it and we are on the family plan, it definitely has turned into a huge billboard if you don't have a subscription.

Really is a shame, to erode the experience of buying music like that, another reason why I gave up and switched over in the end.
