So there’s lossless, and there’s hi-rez. Then there’s streaming, AirPlay, Wi-Fi, hardwire. Then there’s my attempt to compare it with Amazon Music HEOS on a Denon receiver.

I’m entertaining the notion of switching to Apple Music, but I’m wondering about what I would gain or lose. I listen to many Ultra HD songs on Amazon Music, using its native connectivity to my Denon receiver through HEOS. Unfortunately, Apple Music doesn’t have a native interface with HEOS, and I would need to either use AirPlay or a hardwire USB connection. So I’m wondering:

  1. How does Apple Music’s hi-rez catalog compare with Amazon’s?
  2. What is the maximum bitrate that Apple Music offers?
  3. If Apple has hi-rez content, will it stream through AirPlay, a hardwire connection, both or neither?
Let me know your thoughts on these, or any other considerations I should note to help me choose. Thanks!
