"Apple Music." "Beats 1."

And to think that it was fewer than 10 years ago that Apple and the Beatles were still embroiled in a lawsuit over the use of the "Apple" trademark as it applies to music.

If we're I'm really lucky, one of those stations will play good music music I like.

Fixed it for you. :D

I don't care for the music played on Beats 1 either. However, just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's bad music. Millions of others do like it — and that's what makes it good music.

Millions of people eat at McDonalds, too. Doesn't make it good food.

Millions of people commit adultery or have abortions. Doesn't make those things good, either.

Amen to that. I tried to listen to Beats 1 on a number of occasions, and there's definitely too much hip hop/gangsta rap type of "music" that I detest.

I'm honestly surprised that Apple, which is fairly conservative in its public image, is choosing to play that much stuff like that.
Wouldn't consider promoting LGBT rights as conservative.

I'd prefer if they made one station featuring a mix of current popular music from all over the world. Instead of a lot of local stations. That'd be truly Apple way and some really great and unique experience.
Steve would certainly like it :)

But they won't because Tim Cook is not an innovator. He is too busy playing it safe. 4+ years of coasting is about to catch up to Apple.

Personally, i like your idea.

I however suspect some will be Language specific, e.g. Beats 2 China, Beats 3 Russia, not sure how big the music catalogues will be for those channels. Probably best if they stick to Genres
I'm sure they will play local music on these channels. No doubt Chinese are not interested in the current Beats 1 playlist. And they have a lot of music to choose from.

I'm worried that Apple bordering on becoming maker of many things but master of none. I hope that doesn't happen. They have a great computer market and phone market. But at some point they can't keep all the plates spinning in the sky and move it all forward. Or maybe they can..
They certainly do seem to get into a lot of different markets now, to wit: their TV 'hobby', radio stations, home automation, health apps, mapping, payment services, cars even perhaps? Arguably the iPod and iPhone started that trend away from just computers.

Not saying that is a bad thing necessarily, but they certainly do have their plate full these days.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, their own Search Engine is definitely something Apple should pursue, and sooner rather than later.

If Apple is conservative then Hillary Clinton is part of the GOP.

You're comparing apples to oranges — and you toss in a political hot potato to boot!

So far Beats 1 does a pretty decent job of trying to play a mix from different genres. Plus it's really not that hard for people who don't like it to just create a radio station in Apple Music based on an artist or genre they like.

Well, if the new stations aren't any different then Beats Me as for why they'd be using them. ;)
May as well be Beating a dead horse. ;)
Both channels would probably try and Beat each other in the ratings too. ;)

I could do this all day.

I knew the 1 had a particular reason it was chosen. Wasn't exactly a secretive choice.

Listened to Beats 1 a few times out of curiosity. They were playing that awful pop stuff that I really don't care for each time, the same songs I can get turning on any "modern hits" radio station. So much for music discovery.

Some genre stations would be nice. I'm not that sold on Apple Music, though, and I don't think even genre stations would get me to subscribe. I prefer iTunes where I can own my music.

The biggest thing I took away from this article is that Beats 1 is only live 12 hours a day?! They launch ONE station and can't even hire overnight DJs? They made a pretty big deal about it being the first 24 hour internet station. I don't get it.

This is very deliberate as Beats1 is a worldwide radio station and has to account for people being in timezones that are up to 12 hours out of step with the live broadcast. The live for 12 hours and then repeat gives the entire world a chance to hear all the shows at something approaching a reasonable time of day. A lot of the shows I want to listen to are broadcast "live" at 3am UK time, so I'm extremely happy for the repeat at 3pm that afternoon so I don't have to become nocturnal to listen to them.

I really like Beats 1. While it's obviously hit or miss based on your tastes, it has been great for discovering new music. Plus, there really is an advantage to live commentary over a simple set list. Sometimes you're in the mood for the context and insight of a musical sage.

I don't mind a few more, but don't go over the top... like 13 different digital radio.. Beats 1 to Beats 13

ya ok..... make it simple,,, how is that simple where u have a whole strand of stuff to pick from.

give us maybe 4..
