Apple Music is now available to stream on Google Assistant-enabled devices like the Nest Mini and Nest Audio in five more countries, including Australia, Canada, India, Mexico, and South Korea, according to a recently updated Apple support document.

Apple Music first became available on Nest speakers and displays in the United States, UK, France, Germany, and Japan late last year.

Just like with Siri on the HomePod, Apple Music subscribers can ask Google Assistant to play songs, albums, and playlists, and it's also possible to set Apple Music as the default music service to avoid saying "on Apple Music" for each request.

Apple's support document provides instructions for setting up Apple Music on Nest devices:
Set up Apple Music on your Google Nest device

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or Android device, open the Google Home app.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Music.
4. Under "More music services," tap the Link icon next to Apple Music.
5. Tap Link Account.
6. Sign in with the Apple ID that you use with Apple Music and follow the onscreen steps to complete setup.

Set Apple Music as your default music service

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or Android device, open the Google Home app.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Music.
4. Under "Your music services," select Apple Music.
Google shared more details about this rollout in a blog post first spotted by iPhone in Canada.

Finally!!

My son has had a Nest mini in his room for a few years (a gift, I sure wasn't buying Google products) before we got HP minis. He loves asking it jokes, quizzes, etc. but was always frustrated when he'd ask to play music and Google would offer YouTube radio instead.

He'll love to be able to use Apple Music now as he makes his own playlists for the HP minis.

Try asking your Nest Mini to play one of your own playlists. It doesn’t work for me. It plays a similar sounding playlist from Apple Music. Not the one I created. I’m in Canada.

Yes, I noted this in the old, original thread yesterday - this appears to be set up to only respond to verbal requests to play artists and/or albums. I can't even get it to play an Apple-created playlist (at least, not the ones to which I subscribe in my Apple Music).

So if Apple are now playing nice with Google Nest...

Will Google Nest play nice with Apple in return and adopt HomeKit support for their Thermostats, Cameras, and Doorbells at last?!
I'd love to see this happen, we have a Nest outdoor cam on our driveway and and indoor cam in our twin boys' bedroom plus a Nest thermostat, other than that it's a typically Apple dominated home (Apple TV, HomePod minis etc). It's to no one's benefit to effectively 'block' people using a mix of IOT devices across HomeKit/Google/Amazon.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I am now casting through the Google Home system to my Nvidia shield and it’s set as my default player for my google home.

with respect... no thanks.

Ive got enough hubs and complexity going on in my smart home!

Not too much to ask for them all to play nice together!

Alexa is the closest to universal compatibility as they come.. and HomeKit is way behind.

The Starling Hub would do exactly what you’re after. I went all in on Nest after waiting for years for Apple to do something in the home space and couldn’t be happier with how Starling integrates everything into HomeKit with a very straight forward set up process. It’s also set and forget.

Apple Music needs Google Nest, Google Nest does not need Homekit.

Well, it’s hit and miss.. I‘d say it works 80% for me and I had to rename some of my own playlists to be recognized. I‘m in Germany.

Too late, Google.

I bought the HomePods first even the mini. Returned. Unstable. Utterly useless sub par experience. Even with the new fast stable connection offered by the mini, it’s matched easily by all the Amazon devices for both speed and stability. Apple Music Spotify all stream no issues. And amazons stuff actually sounds very good. I first got a dot, which was comparable to the mini. Cost me $10 (special from Amazon for new subscriber) but on special now for $19aud. Mini cost $149.
Now I have a echo studio which sounds incredible for the money ($179). I’ve never had to restart. The lights have never dropped out. Alexa always understands me unless I mumble really badly. And even cheap lights not just my LIFX ones respond instantly. I then got an echo show 8 for kitchen ($99aud) and even that sounds substantially better than a mini, but has a screen can play YouTube through browser and Netflix app built in. No contest. I wouldn’t mind paying apples prices like I do for everything else but their smart speaker stuff is awful.
I have no doubt the Google stuff is good. I needed Apple Music when I was buying.
Apple really need to work on their system. End/

Nest? Google Home? Aren't they in the process of killing off the Nest brand?
No. WTF?

Anyways, we've been using our Mini with Apple Music for some time. It works great! Have a Nest Hub coming next week too. We've been long time users of the Nest Learning thermostat and door bell camera. Love that we can still take advantage of both ecosystems with partnerships like this.

Placed an order for a Nest Speaker on sale for $49 CDN

It’s hard to pay $129 CDN for a HomePod mini when the price differential is so great.
