Loving the Watch 4 so far.I have LTE on mine. My only issue is with Apple Music and Apple Radio. They simply do not seem to play when I go for a run. Apple radio will just show a song and then not play it and basically act like there is no music to play.

Apple music will load a playlist and then on it's own, scroll through every song on the playlist, but not play anything.

It will play some songs in my library and that is it.

I notice this happens more when I use an app like runkeeper or apple's exercise app. When I go cycling, I dont use any apps, and the music streams a little more reliably.

What is the process to say - add a playlist using Apple Music on your phone and then put in airpods, leave the phone behind, switch to the watch and pull up that playlist? Because just getting a new playlist to show on my phone can be a real pain.

Does everything have to be in the library to work? That doesn't make much sense since I have LTE. Maybe am doing something wrong.I just restarted both devices and am going for a walk to see if anything changes.

If you want to store a playlist on the watch to playback sans phone, go to the watch app on the phone, scroll down to music and select. Tap add music and you'll get it from there. The phone will need to stay close to the watch until it is done uploading the playlist, artist, etc that you chose. It can take a while because it's doing it via BT. Good thing to do add bed time. I have a S3 w/o cellular and rely on uploaded playlists on my watch for workouts but have been frustrated with the music app because it is showing all of my playlists that are synced through iCloud via Apple Music. By itself, this isn't a bad thing, but I can't get to a library of just the music that is stored on my watch. The update to OS5 didn't make the situation any better. Considering resetting and starting over. Also whenever I exercise I have to turn BT off on my phone , otherwise whenever I get in range of it my AirPods will reconnect with it, interrupting my music and workout. Not great.

Ok thanks. I thought that the music would stream from the app regardless of that so it makes sense. A bit of a hassle but not the end of the world.

Do the playlists that auto update actually do so (weekly new release playlist, for example) or do you have to sync them manually?

I've never used the suggested playlists that Apple Music provides but they should auto update. When I edit a playlist on my phone that is uploaded to my watch that edit is reflected on the watch, eventually. The ones suggested for me each say when they will be updated, i.e. Sunday, Friday, etc.

Yes and no. I have a few of the Apple weekly playlist. These do update automatically..on the phone. To do so for the watch, you have to still add that playlist onto your watch. Then it will also update once you put them on their chargers. I make a playlist in the evening, at bed, both devices on chargers and in the AM I'm ready to go.

Apple Music does stream on the Watch. You have 2 scenarios going on here...OK first. You can tell siri to play songs by Madonna, play songs by Prince, etc and it will. Or you can say by such and such album by this artist. WIll do that too. However, if say play all hits by Missy Elliott, then it creates a radio playlist uysing the radio app if you want to finish listening to that created playlist the next day.

Not very intuitive, but i can always find my music. I does take too long to sync playlist to the watch, luckily I have Icloud music on and even if it diod not put ahard copy on the watch, it's in the cloud, therefore still playling the exact sequence of the playlist I wanted to listen to.

Hope that helps

That does help a lot. I had no idea. Honestly this is disappointing for me since i have been a spotify user since day one and its a far superior app for me. I like music discovery. Finding new music is my preference over anything and apple music sucks for that. Add to the fact that i have to charge the phone next to the watch to synce playlists and it feels like we are going backwards in time. We spend $10 a month for lte and our watch app cant even auto update?

Total fail by apple. This is a very clunky and unacceptable way for us to stream music. If i wasnt paying for lte i would not be that annoyed, but i am.

Maybe I am not understanding, but why would you need to sync playlist on your watch if you have the LTE version and have Apple Music? I have had the Series 3 and now the Series 4 with LTE and Apple Music, I have not once sync’d music to my watch. I am able to play all of my playlists that were created in ITunes or my iPhone streamed from the Watch. All my playlists get updated in every location.

See this is what I dont get. Because I have experienced this too and then I also experienced my OP, where it doesn’t play anything and just scrolls through the song titles without playing them.

I am completely confused on how the heck this is supposed to work. The way you describe it is what I would expect to have happen 100% of the time for me.

Yeah if you are not experiencing things the way I described something is not right. Have you tried logging out of Apple Music and back in?

No. That's a good idea. I've tried about everything, but let's see.

Isn't the playlist new music Friday supposed to auto update? Mine have the cloud logo on them when I look but the songs in the list seem old. First one is two weeks old with Drake and French Montana.

Edit. Nevermind I see the issue. This was Spotify list that i downloaded and have to re sync. The UI is confusing.

Another issue. My watch app shows albums on it under library. But the albums only play one song that I have been listening too. Is it not possible to just listen to the entire album? That just makes no sense to me either. If I have an artist up I should be able to listen to all of their albums easily. What am I missing here?

For example when I pull up an album on my watch app under library, it shows the album but just one song. I can't forward to anything else. It just doesn't respond.

That's odd because if I go to Library, I can retireve any album or song that I have made playlists for. Are the songs in those albums fully downloaded in itunes? Like I had an album and only 1 song downloaded and I had to hit the cloud for the rest.

Your point is 99% valid. As you have access to all your music and more provided you have a signal. No need to sync.

The 1%, I go hiking at Mount St Helens and many places where signal is an absolute crap shoot. So I still have music.

Crazy ain't it. LOL.

Well I totally get it that if you wanted to listen to music when you have no signal you would need to have the music on your watch :-/

See this is my issue. I have a signal and do not have access to all my music sometimes. Like I said, It just spins through the song titles without playing and the radio app does not work at all.

To answer the first question, the songs are not fully downloaded in itunes. Do they need to be? Why can I just not find an artist and pull up their albums if I have a cell signal? This is my frustration since I am paying $10 a month for LTE and $9 for Apple Music.

I would try especially if your music is in the cloud. Try one album and give it a go.

Apple Music just gives you instant access to music not in your library. Also it takes afew days for music to sync. I would lay your watch down on charger, put your phone next to it and open the music app in your watch. Will say pending and might start transferring music. That is if you have not done it already. It takes a while to sync a playlist. However, it should still play even if it has a cloud next to it.

Are you sure you have music streaming enabled? The first time I tried to stream on the watch via LTE, it wouldn't let me but check here:

  • On iPhone, go to: Settings > Mobile / Cellular Data > turn on Music.
  • On iPhone, go to: Settings > Music > Mobile / Cellular Data > enable Cellular Data and Streaming.

You may be on to something here. Music was not enabled in the first option. I will report back. Thank you.
[doublepost=1540012853][/doublepost]Currently trying to add podcasts and the watch app just says "pending" in both the podcast and music areas.

The podcast app is enabled in settings yet ha very old podcasts on it from a long time ago. That's my new challenge.
