I am unable to add any songs to my library while listening on my Mac. Hear a song on Beats 1 and like it? Can't add it. Like an album that is on one of my play lists? Can't add it. Clicking on the add to my library button does nothing. I have to stop what I am doing, go to my phone, and then add it there. This is ridiculous. How do I get this fixed??

If you hover over the name of the song up at the top of the app, you'll see 3 dots. Click on the 3 dots and it'll give you options to add to your library. You can also right-click on the album artwork, and it'll give you the same options.
None of these work on my Mac. I cannot find any way to add music to my library. I have to go to my iPhone, search for the song or album I was listening to on my mac and add it that way. As I said, Apple Music on the Mac is a total mess. I listen to music 99% on my Mac, not my phone so this is a massive hassle. Once my subscription runs out next month I am moving over to Spotify. This is just ridiculous.
Something is strange at your end. I recently got rid of my MacbookPro but when I had it I had no problems adding albums to my library in Apple Music.
Moving to Spotify or adding Spotify is a good plan as many of us find its music suggestions far superior to what Apple Music provides.

Apple Music worked on my Mac a few updates ago. Now it is a complete disaster. I am dropping all Apple services and moving over to a company that can actually keep their systems running. No more Music, TV+, and News for me. I am done with Apple services.
Honestly, you should probably just do a factory reset to get a fresh new start. This is a very isolated issue with your computer, as my entire family, and many other people that use their services, don't have any issues.
You factory reset your Mac. You state that it was working on it a few updates ago on your Mac, but now it's not. Sounds like an update might have caused an issue for you. It wouldn't hurt to factory reset the computer to get things to work again. Or you could wait for Big Sur to come out, which could fix it during the update.
Interesting update to this problem. I tried in vain to add more music to my library on my Mac. Of course it failed, but in the bottom left corner there's actually an error message. Never noticed that there was some sort of display window in Apple Music but after I tried to add music to my library I saw "an error occurred" with an exclamation point. Clicking on that showed the error message: "Error 9039".

Number 1 restart your computer
Number 2 log out of iTunes

Sorry, know you were trying to help but websites offering ‘fix errors’ that tell you to turn off your computer should be deleted off the internet.
