Apple Music requires OS upgrade as of yesterday?

After the WWDC Keynote yesterday, Apple Music stopped working for many people who don't have a recent OS like Sierra installed on their Mac.

Based on the comments it seems that one needs to upgrade - can anyone confirm that to be the case?
