A future challenge will be what constitutes AI? If a person runs an audio program to 'clean up' the audio track - remove a background noise or "de-hiss" an S sound, is that AI? What if the program says it uses AI to help do those things?

Following copyright laws regarding permission from the IP holder isn't voluntary and the AI companies completely ignore it.

Apple said it defers to content providers to determine what qualifies as AI-generated
This is not good enough because I’m sure that most AI-first creators are there to cheat in the first place. I want to able to reliably apply filter to all AI created content so it doesn’t even appear in my feeds.

But I no longer listen to anything created in the last 2-3 years anyway. It doesn’t appeal to me simply because there is a chance that AI could have been used at least partially.

I’m not being picky here, I’m just not interested in something that wasn’t fully created by a human being. Even if it sounded better. Human touch is the key to invoking emotion for me.

How about just not hosting AI generated music at all, who wants to listen to it anyway, and stop this insanity of thousands of machine generated 'songs' uploaded every day.

On one hand this is great, it gives consumers choice and a visual signifier of music to avoid (hopefully for most consumers). But on the other hand it legitimises Gen-AI Music on the platform. It allows the distributors to stop screening for AI and allow self declaration of "artists" (lol) to legitimately have a place on the platform providing they have categorised honestly. I think Apple should have been truer to their roots as a company with deep respect for the arts and artistic integrity, and taken an anti stance.

Write songs for decades and then see what you think about AI music. AI music is best when it's used for humorous purposes. Arnie singing Over The Rainbow, and so forth. When the listener is fully aware. When it's used to try to sound legit the listener is being duped. It's no different than someone being sold a dodgy quality product or a stolen one—some might say it's even worse. AI ain't building no pathway in their garden and hitting their finger, going to bed in a bad mood and walking up inspired with a new tune. The word inspiration means filled with spirit, and AI ain't got none.
Bra-(f’n)-o!!!! This is a smart comment from an astute person!

How far do you suggest we go back?

The 80’s was the first fully sampled hit by MARRS.

AI is just a natural evolution & has been used in recording studios for the last few years.

It’s not how you do it, it’s what you do.
AI is artificial, not natural intelligence.

Hopefully dissolving rather than evolving.

It’s not how you fake it, it’s that you fake it.

Apple will always do what's best for its customers, regardless of money.
Did I miss the /s?
Definitely not always. For years, they have been charging e.g. $200 to configure from a 256 to a 512GB SSD. Only as of this week, they show they can do it for half that price.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. I find the issue gets complex with respect to a non-binary approach to AI. For example some producers might use AI to simply do a drum track, or backing vocals, but the rest is a real person. This is similar to the use of programs to generate drum tracks such as Toontrack's EZ drummer etc, or using tools such as Autotune.

I generally will try to avoid liking songs that are AI, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Even though it's a good song, it's important to appreciate one that was done with actual learned talent rather than AI prompts.

It will be more important than ever for artists to produce accompanying music videos that authenticate themselves as real artists and not AI. Most AI music producers will also use AI to produce AI videos as well.

Well yes because the storage will be a lot slower in the MacBook Neo compared to the flagship devices that now feature lightning-fast storage.

I think disclosure policies will win out.

Social media video comments are half filled with arguments if its AI.

Add this to the expected bubble burst for AI investments.
