Apple today is rolling out a new feature to Apple Music users, prominently displaying new albums, EPs, and videos from their favorite artists at the top of the Library tab in iOS.

Image-63.png

The new feature first appears as a splash page in Apple Music on iOS, telling users that they can "see new music from artists you like." This will let you get updates about new releases from artists you listen to, with notifications appearing above your library of albums and playlists.

In settings for the feature, it appears that you can't specify exactly which artists you want notifications from. You can only choose to turn these notifications on or off, and whether you want to see these notifications in your Library tab or not.

The updated notifications feature is not available on a wide scale as of writing, but a select group of users do appear to have the update so far. To check, you can visit Apple Music on iPhone or iPad; the splash screen will appear for those people who can use the new feature.

Apple Music has offered push notifications about new albums and music from artists you stream in the past, but these are fairly unreliable. Now that Apple is placing notifications directly within the Apple Music app, the company appears to be trying to offer more dependable information about new album launches.

(Thanks, Joshua!)

Curious to see how this will look in the library. Wondering if it'll be a new selectable option for "new releases" similar to "Artists/Albums/Playlists..." or if it'll add some sort of "smart shortcut."

I really wish they’d redesign the Library tab overall. It’s so empty and bland looking.

This whole thing with albums needs to be fixed. Let's take for example "After Hours" by The Weeknd - I added this album to my library a few days ago before it was officially released and on the day of the premiere Music app still showed it as unavaliable - I had to remove it and add again to be able to play it.

Yeah, this is a very annoying bug...

That's really a fantastic feature -- being able to stay connected with our favourite artists.
I hope they keep the history of notifications, so that you can catch up what latest releases you missed.

Eventually, have access to the shows coming up in your region? (well not amidst the pandemics, but you know, in regular times...) I use Bandsintown and Spotify also has integrated it. Does Apple Music offer this feature?

What?!
So you can't favourite an artist and have to put up with spam notifications from apple for music you 'may' like?
Apple has never got recommendations right - no service out there has.
Some of my recommendations are way off.
What's more way off is Apple implementing this feature without letting people choose THEIR music.

If I want to listen to random music I might like I'll choose the new music playlist. What use is there to have my precious notifications be taken up with this useless fuzz unless I choose an artist I want to get updates about. Oh wait, Apple doesn't let you do this.
No freedom of control - it feels like Apple wanting to push their artists and revenue rather than letting people make up their own mind about their own favourite music. What happened to let people be individual Apple?
Is this a financial decision so I can be spammed with new music from Justin Bieber or other artists I don't ever want to listen to because they have special music contracts?
Even if the notifications are based on artists in your library, I may have one song from someone in my library but doesn't mean I like everything and want all notifications by that one artist!

I hope someone from Apple reads this because clearly this feature is way off the mark.

I'm seriously thinking of going back to Spotify.

There's already a "new releases" section in "For You" so I wonder how this is going to be different.

I assume these are notifications based on artists you already have on your library.

MusicHarbor iOS app does a stellar job at this, but this is a welcomed feature.

Please mark MY likes (💖) instead of EVERYONES likes (star) in playlists or albums. I want to listen to MY prefered music NOT to anyones! just a stupid wish i have for years.... i am all in with apple music ... but this liitle tag drives my crazy

This happens to me all the time. I'm glad it's not just me, but they gotta fix that.

What a half assed way to give us a simple long overdue feature.
Let us get notifications for new releases based on artist or record label.
And un bury the All New Releases page.
And increase number of Recent Added releases on home page.
everything feels buried in Apple Music i hate it.
Such a terrible music experience.

Long ago we had a working system where you’d be emailed about music from a user selection of your existing artists. Even though the webpage for this seem to exist until quite recently (who knows, it may still be there) it stopped working for me long ago. I wish we had that still, or yes, a dynamic playlist would be even better. I don’t to be able to choose which artists, because I have some daft stuff in my library.
