I have a smart playlist on iTunes that plays the 25 top played songs based on play counts. I know that this playlists will appear in Apple Music on my iPhone, but will play counts for listening to songs on my iPhone also increase the play counts on iTunes?

NO! and we need to file BRs on this. Apple Music has a left over bug from Match that doesn't update Plays (count) and Last Played (date/time stamp) except on the first song played in the Playlist, when using an iDevice. It has been this way since 2011 when Match came out.

I also sort my music by Play Date and this bug is a 'killer'. Please file a BR on this in iOS and if on El Captain beta file an OS X BR too.

Hopefully others will read this and file a BR too. I know most don't sort or care about Last Played dates or Play counts but it should be corrected in case you ever decide to use this info.

My BR

  • Start playing a song on iPhone from a Playlist I made on Mac.
  • Listen to several songs or entire Playlist.
  • Check Playlist on Mac and only the 1st song I played has the Last Played and Plays fields updated
  • Other metadata changed like Star or Hearts will be updated but not Last Played or Plays

  • Last Played is important to me since I use it to sort music.

Here is a Playlist from this morning that I listened to on my iPhone. Only 1 song had the Last Played & Plays fields updated.
