"Apple Music songs cannot be copied to an iPhone"

On the new Apple Music learning curve. Finding most of the steps I need to get everything working on all my devices, but baffled by this error message when I added a playlist to my iPhone and started syncing in iTunes. All my songs transferred OK except the couple I had added since starting with Apple Music. Why would tracks I download that way not transfer to my iPhone?
