As a Long-time Spotify user, being very disappointed with the slow response of Spotify (Non-existent) on supporting Apple Silicon natively and many many crashes and battery drain that happens when used with Rosetta 2, I opted into a trial offered by Apple Music.

But why I am struggling so much? It seems that it is so hard to find compilations, albums, and even songs. In Spotify, I had Tomorrowland playlists, Blackhole Recordings playlists, updated almost daily, and didn't even need to worry much about making my own playlists. Blackhole on Spotify has a separate profile with several playlists on different genres. And that goes almost for everything, at least in the world of EDM and Trance. Even Trance Essentials Playlist looks like it hasn't been updated in ages, like 10 years ago.

When I searched for In search of Sunrise 16 album, the search returned very old versions and I really had to work for it to find the Markus Schulz compilation which was 16th, even though this is the newest one. I was disappointed to see that, it still uses the add to library functionality, and seems labels are not interested in making their playlists in Apple Music. For Example, Spotify had playlists for almost every artist, even the ones that are not so well known.

Question is, am I doing it wrong, or is Apple Music just different this way?

I don't believe you're doing anything wrong.. It's just Apple Music. It doesn't cater that well for my genre of music listening.

On Spotify recently, I found that all the the tracks(more or less in their original state) of the Techno Trax compilations was in a playlist. That was fun for me.

I can't speak on the native M1 thing as I'm in Intel land still a little while longer. I would probably just use a Google Chrome web app which contains the Spotify website instead of relying on the Intel variant of Spotify for the Mac. Then again, I am not well-versed in the Apple Silicon world yet.

It's hard to navigate Apple Music for the more obscure techno tracks and gabber/hardcore tracks.
I discovered the techno artist Remco Beekwilder while using Spotify and while I have found his music on Apple Music that's done with - I am more concerned with the other stuff

I have lingering inside Spotify that I would be hard pressed to locate in Apple Music.

The interface of Spotify makes the whole difference for me over using Apple Music.. It's like Apple is designing their interfaces for ants or something.

As you mention, Spotify's artists page for the lesser known artists is great.

I thought it was me, disappointed in Apple Music is an understatement - no "radio" station with EDM or the like and difficulty finding content and even having relevant content recommended to me.

I ended up moving to Pandora as it also supports the Apple Watch (without the phone) and it's been far better at finding and recommending that kind of music... even old 2000s type EDM, Classic Vocal Trance, etc.

I think recommendations and playlists is the real weakness of Apple music.
It's a huge library, it usually works well but if you are listening to something and hoping for a relevant suggestion of something similar that you will probably like, it's absolutely not the best.
