Interesting...

I had read this https://support.apple.com/en-us/118283 and thought that "cancelling" would mean losing the library.
Nope once you cancel you don’t lose your library only lose access to Apple Music content they all stay in the same places but you can’t play them without resubscribing, there has need a few periods when I’ve paused my subscription over the years and everything just comes back again when I pay.
It doesn’t cost them much to keep the database file for your library for when you return and it’s much better for customer’s satisfaction to leave it all intact.
I will admit that article definitely needs some further clarification as I definitely shared similar concerns before I did it.

Thanks, huge help! I currently have 3 different Apple accounts across three countries because of this. Will be great to consolidate.

The one that drives me crazy is Apple News+, which does not look at the region you're in or allow you to set a specific region for news.

Actually your content will still be available for up to a month, it just depends when Apple cleans the db. I've read about users who resubscribed a few days after cancelling and their playlists etc. were gone

For those having used the service, can you confirm the favorites of Spotify are converted to Apple Music, not only the playlists?
If you sign in via the Music app settings, you'll have the option to transfer "All songs and Albums" which I'm assuming are from favorites in Spotify, and then "All Playlists" but playlists created by Spotify are not included. Playlists you've made or are following that other users have made are able to be transferred.

If you sign in from the SongShift app, you get the options to transfer Albums you've liked, Songs you've liked, and Playlists, so I'm assuming it's the same, just worded/grouped slightly different in Apple's interface.

This is great for people looking to move to the platform! I was a Spotify user from it's initial launch in the US, and being able to import all my (many, many) custom playlists was a big catalyst in making the switch last year.

Unrelated to this specific tool, but to swapping in general, for anyone considering: the Apple algorithm has been great! The New Music Mix playlist that updates each Friday is just as accurate/dialed in as my Spotify Discovery Weekly playlist was. I think the app does a good job of surfacing things I already like and things I'll probably like. The queueing system is finally queuing things like Spotify. Apple increased the number artists to their Similar Artists scroller, which was always useful for music discovery on Spotify. No service is perfect but I think iOS 26 will bring some great QoL tweaks and the gap is fairly small.
The thing I miss mostly is the social aspect of Spotify. I would regularly peep what my friends were playing and discovered a lot of stuff that way. I moved over to Apple Music a couple years ago and generally like it a lot better, but I'm just not seeing as many of my friends on there.

Totally with you on that, and that's probably one of the only drawbacks I've found. I do like that Apple Music will show you what your friends have been listening to in the Home section, but like you, I don't have as many friends using AM, so it's not exactly an exciting feed.

One small thing that helped me with at least sharing music with close friends (vs my wider social circle) is a Shortcut I found that will take an AM share link and convert it to Spotify, and vice versa. That way, I can send something to my Spotify friends that will open in the app vs them having to search it.
