Lol. Apple Music is so bad. I’m just surprised this is only on iOS and not macOS!
I only use Apple Music to listen to what I want to listen to (i.e. no recommendations) so for that it works pretty well. Though sometimes in a playlist an album track will be replaced with one from a greatest hits album (or at least the artwork is replaced).

Is there a way to back up playlists in case they get corrupted?

After years of falling behind Spotify's music discovery algorithms, I'm so glad Apple has found new and exciting ways to introduce people to new music they'd have never found otherwise. :p

Once Tim Cook finds out his playlists are beng leaked, I'm sure they will fix this in a hurry:

Folks, not to worry, for the official words has come from Apple Support! First, this is not an issue, because it if was, Apple would know about it before any customer does, because Apple talks to millions of customers every hour and Apple loves their customers. Now, for troubleshooting issues like this, the first thing to do is restart your device. If that doesn't work, you'll need to force restart your device. If you're still experiencing the issue, you'll need to Reset Network Settings. If the issue persists, you will need to Erase and Reinstall iOS using iTunes. When you reinstall iOS, you need to set-up your phone as new and NOT restore from a backup. This will ensure none of your customized settings are causing this. If the issue persists, you will submit an RTA to Engineering. To capture information, you'll need to run Diagnostics using an app that Apple will send to you. Just to be safe, you'll want to ensure Mail Logging is enabled. Once that diagnostic report is submitted to Apple, Engineering will reply that they are aware of this issue and to keep your device up to date.

Classic Apple. I remember getting other peoples iCloud photos in my library. Lmao i thought I had been hacked but nah just Apple goofing up.

Apple Music sucks. I tried and tried getting into it but there was always a problem. I even gave YouTube Music a shot before ultimately going back to Spotify. As a Windows/iPhone user I can't move to Apple Music. Apparently they are finally working on an Apple Music app for Windows but for a long time I had to use either iTunes (lmfao) or a 3rd party app.

It's a joke. Apple is literally the richest company on the planet but they are so backwards at times.

As a software guy, issues like these scream caching problem to me.

It’s unlikely they’ve somehow permanently written someone elses playlist to your particular bit of iCloud, very much more likely they’re caching something a bit too aggressively and you’re getting served another users cache.

Happens, caching is super hard. Hope their SREs aren’t too hammered trying to fix it!

Not sure that’s the point. If they’re mixing up your playlists then they could also be mixing up your photos or pages documents.
Isn't that the slippery slope? If this is wrong, then what's stopping that from being wrong and in addition this other thing from being wrong. If you scale it up, it becomes the Y2K disaster (which never happened).

Yesterday I noticed a playlist with a Spanish name in my library and I was like: what the hell?

Have to show my wife this article. I was in a world of hurt when she saw the "Hookers and Blow" playlist pop up.

😉

Every "shared" feature has a huge security potential. Called this before they introduced shared photo library next day after release people were seeing other people's albums. This does not surprise me at all.

Probably intentional for certain entities to gain access to this data. Just implemented slobby.

Wonder if you will be able to keep any of the good songs they had or will it all disappear once the bug is fixed

Genuinely though, if anyone is unable to fathom why so many people buy iPhones yet continue to use all Google apps, this is one of the main reasons.

Whilst I'm currently still stuck on a Pixel 5, when the day comes that I move back to iPhone I will also not be using anything related to iCloud outside of device backups. Previously used iPhones from the 3G all the way to the 12, and my overall experience was that one year iCloud works fine, the next it doesn't. It continues to flip flop and then out of nowhere a major issue will pop up to remind you of how silly you were to trust such a service.

Again, I know so many on here hate Google for selling your data, but most people are fine with having their interest linked to a randomised ID which can be voluntarily wiped with a moments notice. People who are fine with that will get a much nicer cloud experience in return. That's not to say Google are the only alternative either. Microsoft have some very compelling apps themselves now, as they too look to exploit the services market.

As I still use Windows PC's regularly, I'm seriously considering going over to Microsoft apps for a trial run, especially now that Edge has caught up and arguably surpassed it's competitors.
Ha, my response was genuine as I am in the year where it flat doesn't work. Nothing. Not FindMy, not Messages, not Contacts, not Calendar, not Home, not Family Share, on and on I have issues, minor to major, with all of them. What's worse is Apple Support is Microsoft from the 90's - wipe and start over OR if you $$ for additional X, it should fix it. Yeah, I want to pay MORE for something that currently causes so much pain!

I got many downvotes for stating this reality of my situation and I am genuinely happy it works well for others. It gives me a sliver of hope that it can be fixed. Coming up on a year of dealing with this, I seriously doubt it though.

Now Apple music is able to show you playlist of random people, and we think you gonna love it.

Apple really has serious org problems internally, especially in software. It's already proven their HR is a mess. their main software and services are slowly crumbling. But keep pushing AppleTV+ to distract people. 🤷🏻
Apple really can’t seem to focus on a lot of things at once. I thought this for a long time. Now that Macs are great again, iPhones and services and other areas are having issues. This is why I’m not looking forward to the AR/VR.

Because I am bad at making playlists I rarely use that section of Apple Music; so I checked after seeing this and I have one. It’s titled “country 🤠” but none of the music in the playlist is from someone else; it’s all stuff in my library. At the bottom it’s all the artists that I assume would have been in the playlist?

As a Software Engineer this is very concerning. There should be multiple guard rails in the code and architecture of this system to prevent this from happening. A properly designed system would require multiple mistakes to be made before this could happen, making the chance of this happening infinitesimal. In other words, Apple's software quality is crap.

Not sure if this counts as a backup: in the music app in macOS, select a playlist, then go to File > Library > Export Playlist...

It creates a txt file version of the playlist. In the future, you can then import the txt file (using File > Library > Import Playlist...) and macOS music app rebuilds the playlist.

The music app should also alert you if/when the import can't find particular songs, so you can then look at the txt file itself to add back those that are missing.

I've used this method to rebuild old playlists for a long time. It's not very elegant, but it kind of works.
