But buying a patent and holding it isn’t breaking the law. It is however generally considered a ****** business model for a company to buy a bunch of vague patents on something, and sit on them while not making anything of them, and then suing companies that *do* make products that supposedly infringe on them. VirnetX hasn’t provided anything to the consumer space that benefits from these patents. Apple has. But if you want to defend these ****** business practices, that’s your prerogative.
I explained badly.
Company X is always deemed a patent troll by fanboys as they have patents that they are not exercising. Apple have patents that they are not exercising and never have, (and likely have no intention of), they are by that metric patents trolls too. Doesn't matter in the meantime if they are making products or not or if they are actively using other patents or not.
Yo can't have it both ways, can't have your car and eat it. It's like breaking the law, you can't partly be a criminal.
If you haven't exercised a particular patent, so what if you've exercised others. It is the same business practice.
People will give Apple a pass because they make some hardware and software. Big deal.

If I hold a patent for Square plates but have only ever made round ones and have no intention of making square ones, I am a patent troll. See where I'm going?
Who cares if at the same time I make cups, cutlery and dishwashers?

See Apple for what they are please, a bunch of dirty scheming tricksters, just like most companies.

The difference is Apple actually makes and sells products. Some use some of their patents, others don’t, and some patents may be for future products in their pipeline that we don’t know about. When’s the last time you bought something from VirnetX?
That ALSO applies to VirnetX. Past behaviour is not a guarantee of the future. How about considering that?

Oh please. VirnetX has been in “business” since 2005, yet all they have available as a product is the Gabriel communication suite. Look at their website, almost every page brags about how many patents they have, or that this or that is patented, they even have a page for how to license out their patents. To me it seems they care about their patents more than anything else, and combined with the fact they have 1 software communications program screams patent troll.
We *know* Apple will continue to make products in the future utilizing their patents and licensing others. We *dont* know if VirnetX is going to make products in the future, given they have 1 thing to show after being in business for 14 years.
So yeah, I considered that.

1. They didn't buy the patents. They invented them.
2. Products in the consumer market are not a defining element of a patent.
3. Your entire argument is built on false assumptions.

Ironically, your accusations against VirtnetX (It is however generally considered a ****** business model for a company to buy a bunch of vague patents on something, and sit on them while not making anything of them, and then suing companies that *do* make products that supposedly infringe on them.) is exactly what Apple and their little cabal did when they formed Rockstar Consortium, bought some patents, and immediately started suing companies... so there is that.

I never said they bought their patents. I was referring to the other guy’s metaphor regarding buying patents and not using them.

Read VirnetX’s website, it is more than happy to tell you that all they give a crap about is their patents.

Please enlighten me to as to what false assumptions I was making?

What ever verbal gymnastics you choose to deploy to justify your position, my statement is a fact.
