Good for Apple and Coke.

I loathe those other companies for ethical reasons, but I love to see businesses doing well. Google and GE are total scumbags.

Why is google in the scumbag category? I'd love some examples being that I am new here

I'm puzzled by this comment. You loathe all but 2 of the companies on that list because of ethical reasons, and yet you support and cheer on coca cola?

Because you're on an Apple Forum. No other reason. In other words - they aren't.

And related - if nothing else - this "news" should eliminate the notion that Apple is the underdog in ANY scenario.

They aren't.

I bet Steve-O sees this and says, "WTF?!? It would have increased 85% or more if that MobileMe group had done its damn job!"

(See previous MR article.)

Remember, this is a measure of brand value, and that means how it conveys a corporate image to consumers. We may not care for Marlboro products (many of us), but it is a powerful brand, and for smokers that adds value to its corporate owners.

I mean, my first reaction to the list was Groucho's: I don't want to be part of any list that has Microsoft as a member. But hey, they have a powerful corporate brand.

So to see Apple as THE power brand is impressive in this context. Some of these corporations have been around a lot longer and have had more time to build their image. Apple (and Google for that matter) have come along and trumped them all.

IBM? I'm in the computer industry and only have vague feelings about them and little sense about what their brand represents nowadays. How many of the 2 million consumers surveyed (most of who aren't in the computer industry, I'm guessing) have specific feelings or knowledge about IBM or its "brand"? They're hardly Coca Cola.

This wasn't just a survey - look at the article.

And as someone in the IT industry - I can assure you - that IBM is backing up a HUGE percentage of the worlds IT infrastructure. No surprise they are on the list and very high on it as well.

There is really no way Apple's achievement can be overstated. They singlehandedly, almost overnight, freed the "computer" from the box and keyboard. This was a landmark moment. Now everyone's pushing this paradigm. Tablets, slates, app stores, touch interfaces, etc.

The next 5-7 years will be a huge growth phase for Apple, during which we will witness the decline of Microsoft. Note how MS' brand now ranks below McDonalds. And McDonalds sells low grade cheeseburgers that pose serious health risks.

Welcome to the post-PC era, Microsoft. Seriously.

McDonalds burgers don't pose serious health risks at all.

People's inability to moderate themselves and display some small level of self restraint (and to show the same in controlling their kids) poses serious health risks.

You're trying to discuss logic with someone who won't be able to return in-kind.

You could just as easily say that Apple and every computer/tv manufacturer pose serious health risks because of eye strain, carpal tunnel, etc using LTD's logic...

It is hard for me to believe that this is so. Not because Apple is on top but because McDonald's and Coke and the like aren't on top.

Good for Apple. I too like many others have stated is pretty shocked by the Marlboro gaining 18%. You would think with all of the negative press the "sin" companies would be sliding not gaining.

Except I mean what I say. Always.
