Sorry, but BMW would be the last car I would consider.

Wait, that's not right. I'd put a new BMW 5-series slightly higher than a used Yugo.

But, are you saying that I need to "opt out" of having an Ipod dock? Case closed. Apple monopoly proven.

Ok. Buy a Yugo then.

Case really closed.;)

It's called choice.

But "choice" means that I can choose my music player, and use it in the car of my choice.

If a company with monopolistic market share in the music business creates deals with car manufacturers which make it harder to use other music sources, then we have abuse of monopoly power.

If the car has an assortment of connectors that support a wide range of players - no problem.

If the car only has an Ipod dock - that's abuse of monopoly power.

Kinda like what Microsoft does with Ford Motor Company ?.

Sounds Great!

Thanks for the laugh in the opening sentence: While the iPhone has dominated the rumor scene in the weeks leading up to WWDC

The iphone has dominated this site since the iPhone inception or should we say obsession!--)))

Looking forward to see snow leopard in action! :D

hahaha, i thought your avatar was a real bug on my screen, i tried to squash it...lmao.. im such an idiot...

It could decide that a car with an Ipod connector illegally leverages Apples' monopoly.

Are you serious???

Car manufacturers include iPod connectors only because the iPod is the de facto standard. They are appealing to consumer desires by including a feature that caters to a device the consumer likely owns and uses. Doing so, however, has nothing to do with Apple directly. Apple isn't mandating that auto manufacturers include iPod connectivity - in fact, Apple has no real leverage to do so. Microsoft, on the other hand, used its monopoly position to bulldoze its way into new markets, control its partners, and stifle innovation. You can argue against that if you'd like, but if you do, every court in the civilized world has already disagreed with you.

I don't think you really understand what a monopoly is (Apple has no exclusive control over the digital music business or digital music player business, even though they have a dominating market position), and you clearly don't understand what illegally leveraging a monopoly means (even if Apple in fact had one).

Please be bug-free, although at this point, I'll take anything over Leopard Server.

Please be bug-free, and not the public Beta that was Leopard at launch.

Please be bug-free, and demonstrate that Apple has paid as much attention to its OS as it has the iPhone.

I couldn't agree more.

Apple treating its software and hardware like betas for the past few years has been painful.

(And next I hope they clean-up iTunes and the hardware. Apple really needs a return to quality.)

NO KIDDING!

All this attention about the damn iPhone is really pissing me off.

Apple, if you want to change to a phone company do it. HOWEVER NEVER FORGET WHY YOU ARE BILLIONAIRES IN THE FIRST PLACE: YOUR COMPUTERS!

Apple should really watch their tailgate. I've been hearing this more and more off the 'net as well...

Sadly, I wouldn't hold my breath.

It would sure be nice to see though.

Apple licenses the dock connector, so Apple is involved.

A suitable redress would be to force Apple to openly license the dock connector, so that any music player could connect to an Ipod dock.

And of course, it's not a monopoly until the courts declare it to be one - and at that point the rules of the game suddenly change.

Of course one could argue that the iPhone is a mini computer, which is true.

However the thing that's really pissing me off is the iPhone and Mac uses different OS. While you got a billion+ apps for the iPhone, where's the equivalent apps for the Mac? I have news for you even though the iPhone is still smaller, BUT Mac laptops are portable too. It would be handy if you could use GPS apps on a MacBook too!

Although I'm not a gamer, but what about games? The iPhone has TONS of games, what about the Mac?

Leopard was actually delayed because of the stupid iPhone! Some people thought that Apple should have delayed Leopard even longer.

Today for example, at the stupid conference Apple only demonstrated the dock and the new QuickTime and talked about some of Snow Leopard's “under the hood” new features. The rest of the conference was about the stupid iPhone!

Apple, quit lying to us and switch your company to a phone company already. Just say “However we still do Macs in our spare time.” DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok then...what exactly is missing from Mac OS that hampers its ability to be an effective OS? Rather than complain ...we need substantive discourse here. Frankly there have been many changes to Snow Leopard that aren't something that consumer will get into. They don't understand lower level stuff like scripting and services and other plumbing but to application developers these features mean they can deliver more stable and robust apps. Relax.

Wow man, take a breath!

Here's the deal: Apple doesn't create games, developers do. If developers choose to develop for the iPhone and not the Mac (because of the enormous sales potential), well, that's not exactly Apple's fault now, is it?

And I didn't see the Mac side being ignored today. Snow Leopard looks great, and the new MacBook updates are fantastic.

Of course the iPhone ruled the show - that's where Apple has the momentum right now. They can be the Microsoft of mobile computing if they keep on top of things. Mac sales will naturally follow...

Like I said if the iPhone has app then the Mac should have an equivalent as well.

What's so hard to understand about this?

Where to start

1. Size..the iPhone just got Core Data which has been available on Mac OS X for two generations. You don't have GB of RAM and HDD for iPhones

2. Target CPU...Mac use Intel based processing iPhone use ARM based processing.

3. Power. iPhones need to run on miliwatts your Notebook/Desktop doesn't.

Relax...go read the new information on Snow Leopard and it should be evident that Apple put a lot of work into an OS update they only want $29 for.

Precisely! And yet the iPhone has TONS MORE APPS than the Mac. Please explain this to me. I might add...

4. Apple computers has been around since 1976 and Macintoshes since 1984. The iPhone has been around since what 2006 or 2007?

iPhone apps are far more simplistic on the avg. I think they make for nice corollary apps to desktop counterparts in many cases. For instance I'm anxiously awaiting the iPhone clients for Delicious Library, Moneywell and The Hit List.

Apple's still focused on the Mac OS but let's be honest in Sci Fi movies people never carried around laptops they carried around small phone sized devices that did everything.

:)

Well I'm physically disabled and my assistive technology doesn't work on the iPhone. See why I'm upset?

I'd be satisfied if the Mac and iPhone had the same apps.
