I've been playing around with front row on my new mac mini, its bloody great, it does everything it was designed to do perfectly.

However I was thinking that there is a lot more that it could do, it would be awesome if apple would release a SDK for it so that people could write plugins. There is a lot of stuff that it would be cool to do from the couch.

Off the top of my head:

Digital TV Tuners (most important)
Fancy Weather Reports
Scrolling News Ticker
etc..

Can you think of more?

If you take out the TV tuners (which I'd like too) the rest of your suggestions are what Dashboard is for. If they allow Dashboard to be triggered over the top of FrontRow...

Dashboard is designed for when you are sitting in front of your computer, im talking about plugins for frontrow, which would be designed to be viewed from your couch.

Dashboard does not provide full screen weather info that you could view from your couch.

I honestly don't know if this would actually work, but if the SMIL support in QuickTime is reasonably okay, what about a QuickTime movie that contains or references a pile of SMIL tags, where the sources referenced by the tags are named pipes? It's just sick enough that it might work!
