can someone explain the whole mail situation with i cloud? I know mobile me is done with, but what will come of mail. I guess if I'm using Gmail i wouldn't need my mail on iCloud in the first place. Why doesn't Apple just create its own mail client like Gmail or Hotmail?? i mean.. it makes sense.. doesn't it?

OS X and iOS come with a mail client. Or you can use the Web.

Umm, Apple has Mail on OS X, Mail on iOS, and webmail at icloud.com. Technically, that's more mail clients than the services you listed. Methinks you must either be trolling or really uninformed.

That would make a lot of sense! I wonder why you're the first person to think of it?

They should use this as an icon:

It would look great! Maybe it'll be called... hmm... Mail.app?

MobileMe the service is done with. @me.com email addresses are not done with. You can receive email at an @me.com email address through iCloud.

We're not going to get @apple.com addresses if that's what you're looking for.

Quite frankly I hope we never see @icloud.com accounts!

That said, I like my @mac.com account ;)

It does make sense for Apple to keep them, in all fairness. It streamlines the iCloud concept if email is in-house too (or at least offered). Works perfectly fine with gmail and others, though.

Unless Apple goes on a hiring spree...

    :p

So.... You haven't yet come across the stock mail app on OSX and iOS?

I'm still using my old @mac.com email. I refuse to give that up.

I really doubt that they will cancel existing email addresses, that would be a bad move. They could however start using a new address like @icloud.com for new uses.

What I meant by my answer was that it was not going away as part of the MobileMe shutdown, which is mostly the topic of this thread (if there really is a topic).
