I agree .. I think the "MMMM" market would work out really well and would be best to get more people over from PC. for 1500$ I would expect more than 2 pcix slots and 1 sata port on the motherboard..! It would be silly to run a Core 2 Duo inside.. once the Intel price drop happens a 2.66 could easily fit in this cost of machine. Otherwise the idea is great.

Or even a Core 2 Extreme (Quad Core Variant)

I don't know what would be better, a Core 2 Extreme or the Xeon family.

to me, whatever will allow use of fast ddr2 ram, and not require the expensive mac pro type of ram and still offer up great power

I think for me I'd want this:

Upgradable Dual Core Conroe Processor (1.86 ghz C2D would do the trick)
4 slots for RAM
2 hard drive bays
A midrange video card
Superdrive

All for the lovely price of $800. It could be anywhere from the size of a powermac cube (my current desktop) to the size of a mac pro. It wouldn't matter to me as long as it has the classic Apple design. This would be a good midrange tower that seems to have upgradability for years to come (a la powermac g4 and the cube).

Anyways, that's just something I'd like. From a business standpoint I don't see it as a smart investment for Apple.
