Apple NEEDS to bring back Scott because iOS is becoming worse/joke each version. iOS 6 was the last

I'm happy with the iOS 9 initial offering. I'm certainly going to enjoy this year I believe and may be reluctant to update next year until 10.1. I generally hold off until the X.1 update but am pleasantly surprised this year

Personally, I think iOS 6 was hideous, but for some people it was the pinnacle of iOS. To each their own.

I get similar or better battery life on my 6+ with iOS 9(I haven't had a lot of time to confirm, but so far it is promising), and I'm not having any of the issues that folks are posting about. It's possible that the complainers are just gonna complain.
Good observation. Everybody should be glad there are choices aplenty.

I also have said many times - you really have to give a new OS on a phone a couple of days - there always seems to be first day activity that goes away after a day.

After a few days you're used to the lag and won't notice it as much anymore. What rubbish, it should be lag free from day one.

I have a 5s and 6. How come iOS 9 is smoother on the 5s? It makes no logical sense to me.

I think Apple just need a longer time to get their updates completed (performance wise at least), iOS is more complex than it was in 2012 and iOS 7+'s visual effects just make it more apparent.

I agree with you. I am very pleased with 9.0 on my iPad Mini 2. Much much better than iOS 8.0 was. That was a disaster of stutter and slow performance. I have kept my iPhone 6 on 8.4 because I like my iPhone jailbroken. Once there is a jailbreak for 9.0-9.1 then I will restore and re jailbreak. If 9.0 runs fine on my mini 2, then it should run fine on my iPhone 6.

iOS7 was terrible, never right even by 7.1.2
Despite all its faults there was no lag though. I'll give it that. The typical (until then) iOS smoothness was still there.

There was some lag there too. Certainly delayed responses due to animations and dropped interactions. Seems like a lot of things get included under the heading of lag, and some of those were definitely there in 7.0 and even 7.1 (especially when compared to iOS 6).

Wasn't "perfect" IOS 6 the version with the maps debacle?

It was indeed but a dodgy maps app was hardly a nightmare. Most people don't use them at all and for those who do there are other options. Nokia Maps was freely available circa the iOS6 map 'debacle' and Google got in on the act very quickly.

Of course this is nothing to do with your battery aging by 3-4 years since iOS 6....
It's only two years since iOS7 was released and besides, these battery life changes are noticed instantly from the time you update the software. Yes gradual battery deteriation does happen but you don't really notice it. If you lose an hour or more immediately after updating iOS then that's very telling.
If you've tried two or three clean installs via iTunes and the battery depletion is still there then you can't blame anything but the new iOS.

He also didn't rely so heavily on transparency effects, motion, and animations, which is where the OS is lagging.

I get less lag with transparency off on my iPhone 6, but it does still hiccup, especially when I pull down the search box.
I can experience noticeable lag when pulling down the search box, under iOS 9.1 beta.

I start fully using iOS from iOS 8.2. For me, iOS 9.0 is simply very bad, worse than iOS 9.1 beta 1. No news app, bugs in settings app, slowness, and more. Stutter and laggy, also.
iOS 9.1 is better, even in its first beta.
