My AirPod pros are probably in my Top 10 purchases of my lifetime list, which includes an Apple-based personal computer, iPad, then iPhone.

And I’m totally fine with biasing my music and entertainment logistics largely around the Apple universe.

But I have yet to buy a battery operated portable speaker I love, for those times I want to listen to something out loud and not via my AirPod pros. Like when I’m working outside for a length of time and want to share music or not shut myself out from others I’m around…or when I’m working in a section of the house away from HomePods.

JBL bluetooth speakers sound great but are never as reliable to hook up/connect like AirPods. Maybe they’ve become a long way since the last JBL Bluetooth speaker I’ve tried.

Apple, let’s have a good $200 airplay rechargeable portable speaker already.

The Beats Pill connects just like AirPods do, but it doesn’t do airplay. I’ve been pretty satisfied with it and it’s less than $200 even at full price.

There is plenty of good battery powered speakers out there, and likely not so much opportunities to make a huge difference. At least my JBL is very simple to use.

And at the same time, 5 years after releasing lossless audio in Music you can’t actually stream it to your quality hifi. Personally I’d be happy if Apple did not create any audio devices if it meant they would get these basics right… 20 years ago that was possible, and all serious competition lets you stream with high quality.

I wonder if the Beats branding has run its course, and it would be better if they were just Apple-branded. Second time I've seen someone asking Apple to make a rechargeable portable speaker, when they already do.

It does seem a bit confusing, but I'm no marketing professional. The Beats Pill works pretty well in general, I've found.
