I had an issue with my iPhone X. Closest Apple store is like 2 and half hours from me so Apple sent me a replacement. But this time they didn’t charge my card. I mean I’m gonna give my current one back which I know some people wouldn’t give it back. But do I need to call and have them fix, or what do I need to do just send this on back after I get the new one?

If you used express replacement, there isn't an actual charge unless you don't return the phone or it isn't under warranty. They do an authorization on the card to make sure that it can be charged for the full amount of the phone. It's not an actual charge, it shows up in "pending transactions" for a few days then goes away. They will charge if you don't return the phone.

Are you supposed to have to pay for a replacement if there’s a problem with your phone under warranty?

They would realize they haven't received back your defective device, they will charge your card either way. Which you authorize with your credit card information. Also, sometimes charges don't immediately show on your credit card invoice online, it just might take longer to process.

I would just call Apple and explain your situation, they will rectify everything over the phone.

I might be wrong on this, but to my understanding they will send you a replacement when they receive the defective phone. The right action is to call them and explain.

Just went through this with a watch and this was exactly what happened.

Only a temp hold to make sure your credit card could stand the charge. If you do not return the device, no need to worry as they will make that charge real!
Yeah like I said I’m gonna return the phone regardless just didn’t know if I needed to call Apple.
