Apple News App Channel Notifcations

Since iOS 12, on the Apple News App, I have a notification inside the app that there are 2 unread stories on the 'channels' tab but it doesn't indicate on any of the channels that I'm following where there is an unread story. I just opened the 'Midterm Elections' channel and that got rid of 1 story so now I have an indicator that reads '1' but there was nothing on that 'Midterm Elections' channel to indicate that is where I needed to go. Is this happening to anyone else?
 
I get the same thing. I also get it with "The Digest." I think it is just Apple's way of directing you to stories or sections of the news that may be of importance to you.
