Apple News has been great with election coverage so far. Their election map is probably the easiest I’ve found for real-time results. Just wish they would drill down by county. They show county win by candidate just not the numbers.

This coronavirus map is great to see now. Kudos to that team.

so did I? What I meant was, if 60-70 % of all Germans eventually contract the virus and of those 3.4 % die (updating death rate, no longer just 2%) then yes, the casualties will be greater compared to only a few being exposed to it in the first place. So yes it’s serious
So please write this, so we all can benefit from your wisdom. And no, your numbers are not correct, the deathrate is ONLY from the people tested, testing MAINLY done to analyse the way the virus is spreading and with that to take appropriate action like isolation. In short there will be more people affected than currently(if ever) known. The numbers are for epidemiologists to analyse, not for us to scare others. Nevertheless, be careful, follow the CDC, WHO, your Physicians/hospital’s advice.

Still buyes though, Apple is neither a newscompany nor has journalistic/editorial skills or integrity. No they are a shareholder/profit driven company, secretive unless forced.

Yeah, but only one of their family members will die, so it's not really that big of a deal, right?
Whatever logic affirms their ignorant stance! And maybe it will be that one who everyone else in the family secretly wants to die so maybe it's not so bad.

People REALLY need to understand you can be infected and pass it along before you have any idea you are sick. Now picture large events with thousands of people and potentially dozens of unknowingly infected people passing it along to people around them. Attend one large event and infect your entire family before the person who infected you feels sick.

There are ignorant people repeating nonsense and passing it off as fact because they want to believe whatever nonsense they are spewing. That's the real reason why it will spread - misinformation. This is a catastrophe that is just getting started. Prepare for life to be real different for a while. Misinformation is killing people and nobody really cares.

I've seen a few reports from people in Italy. They blame it on the fact that no one took it seriously and thought it was just the flu. Now they have so many people infected that their hospitals can't cope with all the cases.

This is how it will happen in the US as well. There are so many people who think it's the big bad media lying to them so they don't trust anything except the nonsense they already believe. We are so screwed.

It's a shame that for the last several years, a few have been loudly yelling to their followers "don't believe the media about anything! it's all fake news! we're the only ones you can trust!", and now they're mostly sitting on their hands, having said things like "well, there's only 15 cases, and soon it'll be 5, and then 0", rather than using that time that we had available to ramp up the policies we needed to keep this from becoming a bigger problem.

There is a ton of factual information out there, rather than listening to the administration.
Another good source of factual information:

The high death rate in Italy is apparently due to the lack of intensive care options there. Plus, potentially, an older population.

I can only imagine when this hits Hawaii. Healthcare is an issue there. (There is no trauma center on the big island, which I found amazing. I was there in 2011. Hopefully that has changed)
There’s many more factors there, so do not be so judgemental about their system. Italians (rich an poor) have a longer life expectancy than us citizens (even longer than the rich). Every italian has access to healthcare.
In a few years we will know the facts, until then you can keep guessing, I for one do not buy it..

Sirius/XM also has a channel for information (121), and the Atlantic magazine is putting their articles outside their paywall apparently. CNN did a podcast they are updating too.

WHO rates italy as the second best health system, and the U.S. 18th.

It's not because of lack of intensive care options. The issue is that intensive care will become quickly saturated because this type of flu is spreading very quickly.

Death rate is higher because 2 reasons: 1 we have an old population AND 2 the rules to get a pharyngeal swab changed drastically since the beginning of the infection. In order to have a pharyngeal swab a patient must have multiple symptoms (mainly fever and breathing problems) and call the "italian" 911. There are countless of infected people with no symptoms/light symptoms that are not counted in stats just because it's impossible to get a pharyngeal swab.

It's not me, it's the media, and 'administration experts', which means, apparently, they don't know poop from poppies...

I'm surprised our (US) healthcare system rated so high. *shrug*

So, not trying to be difficult, which is it. I was slagged for what I posted by someone who said that Italy does NOT have an 'aging population', and that it was for a variety of reasons, including 'access to healthcare'. As in either it doesn't exist, or doesn't exist in the level that the people require. I'm sure that if they had 100% access and coverage, people wouldn't be dying.

By the end of this, and I hope there is an end, a lot of people will die. A lot of good people will die.

Can we please focus on the problem and stop beating on me? What the hell does that serve?

Let us know the cold hard facts about this killer virus full of nose sniffles and mild fevers!
You mean the virus that's 40 times more deadly than influenza ... the virus that kills elderly people exponentially the older they are? It's a 15% mortality rate with folks 80 and over. You believing your own nonsense doesn't make the virus less bad. No, this is not a young person's virus ... but it is terrifying for the elderly and those with lung conditions.

lol. Every day has a 15% mortality rate for people over 80. The average life expectancy is lower than that.

Try and read the published obduction report of a COVID-victim? Look at The WHO, CDC. Or better visit a victim when contagious, if you're feeling cold.. you'll know the hard facts will follow..
[automerge]1583942932[/automerge]

She named the percentage of Germans who will contract the Wuhan-virus, not the percentage who will die from it.
Oh man. I really hope I don't get a cough for a few days. That'd be terrible.
[automerge]1584016955[/automerge]
If a lot more people get it like 60-70 % of Germany and „only“ 2% die. That’s still a lot. Also don’t forget all the people losing or trying to find a job
2% aren't dying. 2% of a certain age and wellness level. The same ones that have always been at risk for dying to basic, simple sicknesses.

Sorry, I thought ignorance was bliss, apparently the bliss-part skipped you. Can you please stop spreading your disinformation?

I, and everyone, should cite the sources of the information that we post. It's my fault that I didn't cite the sources on some of the posts I made. I will strive to do better in the future. You are right. Ignorance isn't bliss, it has big effects on people, society. If the cited information is wrong, that's different than not agreeing with it. Facts are important, and factual information often doesn't comport with our thoughts and beliefs. Attack the information, refute it, prove it's wrong, don't just say it's wrong.

But anyway... Slag on if it makes you happy.

No that’s not the only thing the map accomplishes. It helps us know where hot spots are, which is important for those of us who travel frequently or who meet with people who travel frequently.

I disagree. When the map shows red in the entire state, how does that help? One may see the whole state is infected.
[automerge]1584023352[/automerge]
Avoid food woo terms like 'boost your immune system'. That's is the kind of nonsense that comes from Gwyneth Paltrow and Dr Oz trying to sell you overpriced vitamins that you get from a normal diet.

Your immune system is either normal if you're healthy or dysfunctional if you are impaired. The only 'boosted' immune system is when it the immune system attacks the body and you get psoriasis or arthritis.
I am not advocating buying products that advertise as "boost your immune system". To clarify, avoid most of the pre-packaged processed foods, fast food, processed snacks and make most of your meals from scratch. Multi-vitamin is a supplement, however, one should read the label and make comparison rather thinking the most "expensive" is the best. You can only do what you can control and what we eat is within our control. Doing exercise is within our control and it should be done.

countries, not states. We are making determinations about whether people need to attend proceedings, and the map has been very helpful in making those determinations.

One map shows a red dot on my hometown. It's news to them.

On snake oil 'supplements' on the market, in the past, the FTC and FDA policed products that claimed to 'treat' illnesses. In this current political climate, that protection against marketing BS has apparently died. The lead-up to the 2016 elections had a lot of money flooding into the campaigns by the snake oil merchants. One was the 'My Pillow' guy, who was being threatened by the FTC for claiming that his pillows 'treated' sleep apnea. Prevagen was all but pulled from the market for claiming to 'treat' dementia. Airborne 'traveler immune support' supplements were exposed as being next to worthless. Yeah, ALL of them (and many more) are fleecing people afraid of sleep problems, dementia, getting sick while traveling, ED, exhaustion, etc.

We ALL need to be careful to avoid being suckered in to snake oil BS in this frightening time.

For Ford's sake, people are DRINKING/GARGLING WITH BLEACH because someone on the internet said it's a 'cure'.

It's not a case of if, but when we will probably get it.

Just be safe. Don't get suckered into buying stuff that doesn't work.
