I understand why Apple is doing this but Harvey is no longer even working at The Weinstein Company anymore, so I'm not sure why Apple doesn't just continue with their original plans? o_O

Because anything Weinstein is toxic right now. Every Democrat is distancing themselves from anything to do with Harvey. Hypocritical? Yes. But it's what everyone is doing. Apple included. Not a surprise. Why are you people surprised?

I'm in no way defending the accused, but ditching him from his own company and changing its name is downright stealing.
If he was smart, it is an LLC or an S-Corp, and they can’t make him sell his stock. The conversation probably went something like this:

“Harvey, we have a problem, and we need to fire you. Don’t worry. Take some time off and we’ll keep sending the dividend checks. Your 50% stake in the company still is yours, but this will make sure that it retains its value. Keep going to ‘counseling’ and in 9 months, we’ll get you on the talk show circuit with your apology tour.. By this time next year, I’m sure the President will tweet something to take the public’s eye off of what you may or may not have done.”

“OK, but make it look good.”

Kind of what they did to Bill Clinton... oh wait... they didn’t.

Why aren’t they extolling people from being critical and using the tired old line, “what he does in his personal life has no bearing on his professional life...?”

Apple finally doing the right thing. Dr. Dre's scandal happened decades ago and he's since apologized to everyone including the women he hurt. HW's scandal is recent and he's not remorseful at all.

Actually that's simply not true. Weinstein accusations go back over a decade. People like Matt Damon & Russell Crowe sought to squash the stories to be published in the NY Times long ago and they were squashed for fear of firings and lawsuits. You see, if it's not in the media, that means it didn't happen. Those two actors, who have no comment, because there is nothing good they can say about themselves right now, should just retire from their careers built by this monster.

And on a lighter note, Meryl Streep cried and said she knew nothing of this, but she's been using fake tears her entire life.

Lots of people have to answer for this man after he gave Democrat causes and candidates like Hillary Clinton tons of money, most of which knew about this.

As for Apple, it's hard to imagine anyone at Apple knew about this, well except for maybe Dr. Dre! :D

From what's being told now, everyone who went to the Hollywood parties or were in a Weinstein picture knew and looked the other way for the sake of their careers. Shame on you Hollywood and Kudos to Apple.
I'm sure the Elvis project will reappear in the future under a different production company.

I'm a massive Elvis fan but even I'm pretty sure the biopic would have been very bad, since there hasn't been a good biopic on Elvis since 1979 when Kurt Russell played him. But I'm sure Elvis Presley Enterprises will force it upon some other company

This is the latest disaster:

I just checked the link on Deadline.com - and the article doesn't seem trusthworthy to me: "I have learned that Apple has pulled the plug"; "I hear it had been set"; "I hear the deal, which now"; "I hear that" and this fake reporting (that I put in bold): "The series was going to draw on the Dave Marsh book Elvis as well as archives that include Presley’s personal journals." - Elvis never had any personal journals.

HRC, after about 7 days of churn on this... "I knew nothing about these reprehensible things that Harvey is accused of, but I want to be sure that it is clear. We do not approve of him being charges with these things, and we will donate the total sum of money that he donated to us over the years to charity. That amount is $25,000,000."
3 days later, the Clinton Foundation gets a check for $25,000,000.
4 days hence, the Clinton Foundation returns the money to the Clintons.

Apple is being incredibly strange here. They sign on to a project with TWC despite all of the rumors about Harvey's abuses. Then when he confesses and is fired from the company, they cancel the project.

Maybe it's just political correctness, but it looks to me like a show of solidarity for the man. If they really wanted to send a message against him, they should have refused to sign on to the project, and then try to get involved after Harvey's firing.

It stinks to heaven.

It's not "his" company. It's a publicly traded company. The board of directors (who answer to the shareholders) can fire any C-level executive, including the founder whose name is on the letterhead.

Things like this are part of the risk you take when you decide to make your company public, especially if you control less than 50% of the stock.

And all those politicians that took the money are now going to pay him back.

That's really amusing. A billionaire bribes politicians and gets lots of favorable legislation passed, and then when scandal breaks, he gets the money back. Wow. That's getting influence for free.

If these politicians have any brains, they should give that money to charity. Or just burn it. Anything other than give it back. But they don't have any brains.

So should companies like Apple discriminate on him (or anyone else) based on rumors and speculation? That would be equally wrong, you don't realize that?

Thy pulled out now because the rumors stopped being rumors when Weinstein confessed. A confession is a confirmation of wrongdoing. It's no longer rumors. And thus, the timing of Apple and dozens of other companies and persons distancing themselves.

You completely (deliberately?) misread what I wrote and are arguing against a point I didn't make.

The fact is that Apple only took action against TWC AFTER Harvey was fired. Where's the logic in that? Is the rest of the company to be punished for a man who doesn't even work there anymore? Does Apple know something we don't know about other people at TWC? And if they know more, why wait for Harvey to be fired before disassociating themselves from the company?

As for Weinstein's history of sexual abuse, this was no secret. Everybody in Hollywood knew about him and his predatory behavior, and the industry (including the press and politicians) all chose to cover it up. Either because they were afraid of retaliation or because he donated lots of money to politically-correct people and causes.

I don't believe for an instant that these confessions truly surprised anybody in the business, including Apple. I am also 100% certain that if he had given money to conservative causes, he would've been out of work and in jail decades ago.

Moot point. Harvey gave and received favors from everyone, conservative or liberal, thin or fat, black or white, smart or moron (or alleged moron in the case of Donald Trump), etc. It's not a liberal versus conservative thing at all. His influence touched many parts of American elite society.
