Apple No Longer Replacing Front/Back of Broken iPhone 4/4S

Pics or it didn't happen.

And by Pics, I mean point to where it is written in the Terms & Conditions of AppleCare+. Until you can, the policy doesn't exist regardless of what the "senior advisor" told you.

I'll give you that. I've called applecare 4 times and got the same answer...but i can't even pull up their terms and conditions for applecare+ (page doesn't exist".

The senior advisor said if I have any problem making a claim to have the genius call them and they can override their decision. As of now though its their word only.

I haven't bought applecare for this reason. We got until the 15th to buy it so hopefully we get terms in conditions before then.

Well I was a dumb ass and spilt water in mine. I don't have apple care, and they replaced the phone for me without issue. I expected to pay the $200 and be on my way.

When did this happen?

I am sure this 4/4S change is in the last week or 2.

If you are going to criticize at least get your facts straight, it's AppleCare+ not AppleCare. And the iPhone 4S does have Gorilla glass: http://www.slashgear.com/iphone-4-t...rilla-glass-costly-screen-replacement-2391099. Your ignorant comments keep rolling in.

Help me out....where in the iFixit teardown do they confirm Gorilla glass?

I asked this question when I purchased AppleCare+ on my iPhone 4S.

I asked if the damage warranty covered broken glass. I was told yes then I asked is there a chance I could just have the glass replaced without getting a refurbished one as part of the warranty so I could keep my own phone?

I was told that most likely the warranty would replace the phone with a NEW phone due to the fact the iPhone 4S screen is no longer connected by screws like the 3GS i had.

I asked then would it be a chance I get a refurbished as a replacement? I was told no.

Several weeks ago Apple posted a notice about replacements saying they would no longer offer "one time only" replacements,,,,,,so if you break it now, be prepare to pay,,,,although, it really depends on the Genuis you get....try another store or different Genius to get a result.

See this post for the T&C reference excluding lost/stolen phones from coverage, section 4.2.iv. It's written into the hardcopy T&C Apple mailed me a couple days ago as well.

Thanks for the link... to my own post :confused::D

I see the same thing, but the document is still there. Go to this page:

http://www.apple.com/legal/applecare/applecareplusforiphone.html

Then control-click or right-click where it says "English (PDF)" and do a "save link as" - it will pull the file down.

The document is still v1.0 and still shows the verbiage from my earlier post.

Point for everyone being - regardless of what you are "told" and who "tells" you, this is the agreement that you are entering into. Including this clause:

11. General Terms
...
(ix) The terms of the Plan, including the original sales receipt of the Plan and the Plan Confirmation, prevail over any conflicting, additional, or other terms of any purchase order or other document, and constitute your and Apple’s entire understanding with respect to the Plan.

Nice. I have to read through that. I am still not clear whether or not Apple is going To let us buy another phone for $200 if the one we have been is stolen or lost.

Replacing the back glass panel is the easiest thing to replace on the iPhone. It's so simple I'd even say it's user serviceable. Buy a pentalobe screw driver ($9.95 from iFixit), unscrew the bottom two screws and lift the back up.

A few people on iFixit have confirmed that a Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 glass back panel will fit the 4S perfectly so if you can't find a 4S back then that will work. It's not the cheapest fix, running in at ~$99 but it'll be stock. As others have suggested you could but a knockoff back that fits a Verizon iPhone 4 and it'll be the cheapest fix by far.

Based on the T&C, they are not required to do so. So, I would suggest you not factor that in as a "benefit" if you are weighing the benefits of purchasing AppleCare+.

Yeah I just read through AppleCare+ T/Cs. Well, everyone at applecare says that you CAN buy another phone for $200, but its not in the T&C, so I don't know. I hear more stories about how Apple takes care of them than screwing them. Perharps to some degree we must take them for their word.

I'd like to get SOME type of coverage. Is there a thread about iphone coverage? If not we should start one and see what everyone is doing.

That link takes you to the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4 isn't the iPhone 4S is it? That article you posted is from mid 2010 the iPhone 4S didn't come out back then did it or was that the iPhone 4? I think it was the iPhone 4.

Good example here... The Original HTC incrediable switched from Amoled screen to SLCD. Same phone but sometimes companies change it up and use different parts due to cost or supply and demand. The iPhone 4s has been reported that it's screen scratches easier than previous iPhone 4 model. Maybe it was to keep cost down on the new iPhone 4S glass.

According to the Fifth Ave. Apple Store the screens are no longer connected by screws so it's harder to disassemble. I was told this when I asked if AppleCare+ would replace a glass piece instead of replacing the whole phone. I was told that I'd get a brand new phone instead.

Just an update. I told my friend to make another appointment at a different Apple Store. She was hesitant, but she went anyways. They replaced her phone for her at no charge. This inconsistency between different stores seems odd to me for a company like Apple. Oh well.

Glad my advice could help! This is often the case in similar scenarios.
