I wonder if this could be a sign of online ordering coming soon?

It used to say something along of the lines of "Orders begin March 11"

Thoughts?

ETA-Apparently, they only changed this page, the other pages still say "Order starting March 11 and get fast, free shipping."

But the other page still says.............

"Order your iPad 2 from the Apple Online Store starting March 11 and we’ll ship it free, directly to your door."

Would be very nice if they open up a pre-order this weekend.

Dang it!
Then I wonder why they would change that other page. I'm hoping they do open up preorders! I had my card all ready during the keynote and then was disappointed! :D

Every page I can find still says "Orders starting March 11th" so I still don't think there is gonna be pre-orders. But I will believe it when I see it!

This is the page from my snip in my OP.

I am just holding on to that tiny thread of hope that we'll be able to preorder :p

For wat?

It's clear that apple is doing this intentionally. They want lines.

I agree. Apple got some slight negative press during the VeriPhone rollout for not having lines so not allowing preorders would be the easiest way to generate huge lines next week.

Buy online.
Order your iPad 2 from the Apple Online Store starting March 11 and we’ll ship it free, directly to your door.

Buy in store.
Buy iPad 2 at your favorite Apple Retail Store starting
at 5:00 p.m. on March 11 and get free Personal Setup.

There will be huge lines even with pre-ordering! Just let us get it online, it's more fun waiting around for the Fed-Ex man!! :D:D

I have to believe, which has already been stated by many, that the Verizon iPhone 4 launch has a lot to do with this. If I remember correctly, Apple was still on my local news for that launch but it wasn't the kind of attention they wanted. They showed that there was basically no lines, no mass hysteria... basically a very lackluster launch. And I bet Apple is attributing this to the huge amount of online orders.

They learned from that and decided to correct it with the iPad 2 launch. Free advertising for them is always, always a good thing.
