After work today I stopped by the AT&T store across the street from my office, which is also the location I plan on buying the iPhone tomorrow. I was asking the store manager different iPhone questions: How many are they getting in, are they expecting a large crowd, etc. I was basically just trying to gage what time I should head down to stand in line. To every question I had, he said, "I can't tell you that information". I tried several times to get an answer before he finally said he is not allowed to say ANYTHING other than that the iPhone is available tomorrow at 6PM or else he could lose his job, as per strict rules from Apple. I was suprised that such insignificant information had to be kept so close to the vest. He couldn't even tell me how many people have come in who were interested in buying.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Yes, I've had the exact experience as you - they won't reveal any information whatsoever in regards to the iPhone, crowd control, inventory, etc. It'll all be a mystery until tomorrow...

Haha go us, same deal with me too.

Soo I basically had a semi-one-way conversation with myself asking about some stuff I heard on here and eventually he was like "it sounds like you all know more than me, but I can't even repeat what you just told ME or I could get the boot."

Hah, I went in there for the credit check thing and he didnt know what was going on.

Not a SINGLE SOUL in the entire store. I'm TOTALLY set tomorrow (new location, isn't even on the iphone map on their site but I sure as hell wasn't gonna tell him that!)

I talked on the phone with an ATT guy from a local store that doesn't have iPhones. I felt like I was talking to a robot from a sci-fi film or something.

"So you guys won't have the iPhone?"
    "ONLY THE MONTGOMERY ST LOCATION!"
"Do you know how many they'll have?"
    "MONTGOMERY ST LOCATION!"
    "Um, okay...... bye?"

    I was told more info...

Alright, I won't reveal my location, but I'll say... it's not near a large city but at an outdoor suburban mall.

Went into the AT&T store tonight, was told they would have 20 iPhones for sale.

    That's all I've got.

i had the same kind of conversation with someone at a local cingular store. all she really told us was that if they ended up running out and there were still people who wanted them, they would place orders for those people and receive them within a couple days. even if the store itself didn't get any more shipments, the people who placed the orders will still be guaranteed their phones.

but yeah... they're pretty much keeping their mouths shut.

If they tell everybody that there will be plenty of phones than fewer people will show up, because they won't be worried about the store running out. If fewer people show up then there will be fewer news reports of crowded apple/att stores. Also what if they tell you, "oh yeah we'll have plenty" and then they run out. People would be upset. If they make it seem like there aren't enough, but end up with extras, nobody will be upset about being able to buy a phone. Ultimately they would like to have plenty of phones for everybody, while making people think they will run out. That way they get the most people to the store, and they can keep up all the hype that has been building.

Those will not last long at all. They could be gone in the first 15 minutes of the sale. :(

I have a strange feeling this launch will be handled very well. And i think there will be more phones than we all think there are. I know the 4gig will be the first to sell out at 4:1, but as long as well all get one.:)
