That's a great way to get people to see it the other way. Punish the young people of today for what someone they never met did to someone else they never met 100 years ago.

Beautiful plan. I cannot see how it could backfire.

Oh please don't even try that because our black youth of TODAY gets punished just for being "black" people. Many young black people are just as, or if not more educated and qualified for high paying careers as white youth, yet our black youth does not have slicked back gelled blonde hair, blue/green eyes and have that wall street executive look. Many times over the white kid with slightly less credentials will be chosen over the black kid who should've gotten the job.

At least provide any kind of source to back up your absurd claims.

Apple is very open to black people.

Which is very close to the 7% that are black in total for the United States.

White 55%
Asian 15%
Hispanic 11%
Black 7%
Two or More 2%
Other 1%
Undeclared 9%

http://www.mercurynews.com/business/ci_26325199/apple-releases-its-first-workplace-diversity-report

Those are not the demographics for the USA. There are far more Black people (about 13%), and far fewer Asians (about 5%).

Because it's soo hard to be a white male these days....

You wouldn't know, would you?

Welcome to how black people have been treated for that past 100 years. It's about time someone else feels the same pain.

We already knew you thought that way. What kind of false logic is that? Two wrongs make a right?

great for those kids, i am 25 years old and for the life of me never even understood Java.

the whole obsession with diversity figures is so weird to me. first time i filled out an american application form and saw the question about what ethnicity i am i was like what the face? what does it matter?!? never seen that question asked over here. that question itself seemed racist to me

It's a perfectly valid plan.

You are benefiting from a system that previously exploited minorities. You are now paying for that.

Had minorities NOT been exploited, you wouldn't be in the position you are now.

So all is fair, then.

Don't look at yourself as a victim. Look at yourself as an oppressor.

The obsession with forced diversity is thanks to rampant the endless quest of extreme-left-leaning busy bodies for political correctness.

How dare someone earn a scholarship or employment based on merit alone?! That's just madness! :D

You're like the Greeks asking the Germans for a bailout because of WW2. Y'know I hear there's some Trojans who're a little upset over some incident about a horse and want reparations, too.

Too much personal claims in this thread and not enough sources to back them up.

I'm confused when reading this thread.

Is the black complaining?
Is the white complaining?
Or is everyone complaining?

Too much complain and entitlement mindset.

Here's a Litmus Test for you all.

Look at this picture, and tell me what you see...

A) A group of college students graduating?

B) A bunch of black kids blessed by Affirmative Action graduating on a scholarship that should've gone to a far more deserving white person who's now been denied the chance to excel due to all this pandering we're giving the minorities?

********. I've seen this happen the exact opposite way when I worked for Verizon. Rampantly. Black managers hiring their Kappa brothers when a white guy was equally if not more qualified. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I've personally never seen a equally qualified person get passed over based on them being black. And I've hired multiple black folks myself for positions in the past.

Oh I agree with those seeking reparations.

I've never looked at myself was a victim. I'm not a whiny little bitch who blames my problems on people who lived 250 years ago. How about you look at the fact that I don't benefit from minority scholarships or affirmative action. Everyone in America has an equal shot at this point, let it die. The president is black, the attorney general is black, the most powerful woman in America (Oprah Winfrey) is black, the highest paid athlete and musician of 2014 were both black. Some of the richest and most influential people in America, Jay-Z, Kanye West, guess what? Not white.

Get over it.

Well, just take a look at silicon valley, exxon mobile, Apple's executive staff, especially the ones that do the keynote. If you think all these companies have never had equally qualified black people applying for top level positions....let's just say it's still happening. Steve Jobs and Cook to this day have never had a black Apple executive stand up and demo their products during keynotes. Perhaps because there aren't any or they've hired very little, next to none.

It can be. If you're white and are not well educated and/or are not from a wealthy family, but every kind of program like this assumes that you are based on your skin color, then it sucks for you.

How about not making anyone feel the pain?

You benefited by being white. That already opens jobs and opportunities to you that blacks do not have. Plenty of studies already point out the economic racism of society.

Remember, people do not have an equal shot in America. The wealthy gain an upper hand, because their wealth opens opportunities and advantages to them that poorer people do not have.

That is because people give money to rich people, since they have an affinity towards wealthy people. They feel wealthy people are "better" than the poor.

We need to make sure that everyone in America get an equal opportunity. White's have such a tremendous advantage over blacks, because whites punishing blacks for hundreds of years.

Also, the most powerful woman in America is white.

Sorry, I really need this explained. Exploited in what way, and more importantly, WHEN and WHERE? How does this help white people now? The claim is far-fetched, especially when you consider white immigrants whose families had absolutely nothing to do with any of this and who may have been oppressed in their foreign countries.

Also, Asians...

How about treating people equally from jump street, which hasn't been happening all these years. If things don't change.....which they apparently haven't so far, the people that have always experienced "the pain" will continue to do so.

The only black executive is the VP of Human Resources.

It's going by raw demographics. 70-odd percent of college graduates per year are white, with the remainder being, obviously, the minorities. At its best, AA merely seeks to even this out. Not by taking away from white people, but by bolstering the amount of blacks, Hispanics, and (though there's been some contention about this recently) Asians applying and graduating from schools.

The biggest fears surrounding AA are some people believing that it puts them at a disadvantage. Barring some occasional flubs where it might be applied wrongly, this is far from being the case.
