Have gotten an opportunity to see inside of what information major companies are able to acquire from us consumers by using their products, I am very hopeful Apple is not one of them with especially Chinese company like TikTok.

Cannot provide details, but I’ll tell you one thing, think everything you do on your devices with apps and information you give them.

why is this Chinese app so popular ? I don't get it. Not in a million years I would use this sort of thing from china anyway but to post videos you can do it on insta, twitter etc.. don't understand why this app even exist

Hmm, why can’t I choose to have neither spy on me?

Your alternative scenario is just stupid.
The poster suggested an alternative of western service like YouTube, for which you need a Google account. They asks you all the personal details, including a valid mobile phone number. Menwhile, TikTok is (afaik) pseudonymous.

The people confused why Apple would make a TikTok account clearly have no idea just how popular a platform it is. Apple would be insane to not have a presence on there. They also seem to be strongly advertising Apple TV+. Hopefully that does better for them than it did for Quibi.

My 44 years old sister became addicted to this app. She always dressed sexy in her videos and got lots of likes and comments. What should I do to stop that? Tbh I'm getting really sick of all this TikTok s**t

A whole generation addicted to oxytocin from getting attention (making fools of themselves).

Dad: "Go get a job"
Kid: "But I'm busy making worthless videos of me lip syncing and dancing."
Dad: "........."

This is the same story with making YouTube videos, the kids are making money on tiktok.

mans you left a line out

kid: “but dad I make more money than you do a year in 6 months. Need help with the mortgage?!”

Owned by a Chinese company with much of the data being ”filtered” back to the Chinese mothership.
What could possibly go wrong? Are people really that dense?

what exactly is to fear about ridiculous videos of people bring online with a theme to the Chinese government that the NSA, Google, or Facebook has not already done themselves to any global buyer in the last 15 years?!!!

one could say your statement is quite dense given the basis of your fear.

Since TikTok is a Chinese-owned social media app... and there are a ton of Chinese people in general... how come I never see Chinese TikToks?

Is it separated by region?

Or can Chinese people even use TikTok? Something something "Great Firewall of China"

We know China spies on their citizens... so it wouldn't be a surprise if China is spying on TikTok users.

But what would China gain by spying on moody US teenagers dancing to badly-recorded hiphop songs?

:p

From wikipedia:

ByteDance first launched Douyin for the China market in September 2016. Later, TikTok was launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in markets outside of China. It became available in the United States after merging with musical.ly on August 2, 2018. TikTok and Douyin are similar to each other and essentially the same app, however they run on separate servers to comply with Chinese censorship restrictions.

As for spying on moody teenagers dancing... it's a great source of information for things like machine learning. Or facial recognition. Or deepfakes.
