Apple now has over 1.8 billion active devices worldwide, a new record, Apple CEO Tim Cook said during today's earnings call covering the first fiscal quarter of 2022.

Apple's active install base includes iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch, and it has grown from 1.5 active billion devices in January 2020 and 1.65 active billion devices in January 2021.

Cook did not break out numbers for individual devices, but last year said that Apple had more than billion active iPhones worldwide.

I heard one of them had a paint chip you could see if you held it under the light.

I wish they would have provided a breakdown on the numbers for each device.

Others have speculated in the past. From memory:

1 billion iPhones
400 million iPads
100 million Macs
100 million Apple Watches
100 million AirPods

Those are the big ones. And the rest would be AppleTV, HomePods, etc.

Of course this is just an estimation... but I can see it.

:)

And the vast majority of these active users are running the latest and greatest software from Apple across all their devices. Google?
How is that relevant? Google has way bigger things to care about than who is running the latest Android. It's obvious they're not that serious about the smartphone world, they know they can't dominate as well as the rest of the competition. Give them a break.

AirPods aren’t included, but I think adding that 100 million to the iPhone wouldn’t be insane.

I remember when Steve Jobs said he'd be happy if iPhone captured 1% of the US mobile phone market. Now Apple is close to 25% of the world's population owning an Apple device. It's mind-boggling.

I had a very similar thought when I saw this article - it seems like just yesterday when Apple was struggling and hardly a significant competitor in the PC industry. Nobody would have believed that the company would eventually grow to such a huge and significant company as they are today. Even Steve, I think he would also be amazed by how this has all grown and succeeded.

It is a tremendous accomplishment and I hope that Steve is able to look down on what he inspired and began, and be proud of what it has become.

I highly doubt that. I'd be more than willing to bet it's closer to 10% given how many people have more than one device and how unaffordable Apple devices are for a large percentage of the world's population. Doesn't make it any less impressive however.
