There are more than two billion active iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other Apple devices worldwide, Apple said today in the earnings report covering the first fiscal quarter of 2024.

"We are pleased to announce that our installed base of active devices has now surpassed 2.2 billion, reaching an all-time high across all products and geographic segments," said Apple CEO Tim Cook in Apple's press release.

2.2 billion active devices is a new record for the company. Apple last shared its active install base numbers in January 2023, when the company had 2 billion active devices worldwide.

Apple did not provide numbers for individual devices, but Apple has long had more than a billion active iPhones worldwide.

2 people in my house. 2 iPhones, 2 Apple Watches, 2 iPads, 2 MacBook Airs, 1 Mac mini, 2 Apple TV's, 2 HomePods, 6 AirTags, 1 set of AirPods, 1 set of Power Beats Pro. I make that 15 devices without the air tags and 21 with the air tags.

Doing my part.

I wonder if the OG iPad Air on iOS 12 that we have in home, or my old Mac mini on macOS 12 Monterey, count towards this number.

Oct 18, 2023 it was reported that more than 1.4 billion monthly active devices running Windows 10 or Windows 11 in April 2022.

Let me think...OK 1 Apple Watch, 4 MacBooks from 2008 to MB M1 Air (2 in regular use), 3 Mac minis (only one in regular use), 3 iPhones, 1 Apple TV box, two Apple pencils, 4 iPads, various keyboards and magsafe chargers...did I forget anything? Oh a bunch of AirTags - maybe 10. A Vintage APPLE 590-0617-A Omni Directional Microphone (yes, still stuck on one of my monitors and it works), a Magic Mouse, so ~ 30 roughly. I paid for Tim's Beemer. And that is all without mentioning stuff gone away - Apple IIE, G3 Tower, Apple printers, iBooks, Performas, Classics, et. al. And per person? Various friends and lovers, two wives.

What determines if a device is "active"? Logged in on an Apple ID? My server is a Mac, but is not logged into an Apple ID even though it still runs Monterey including updates. But it is not "Authorized" for music or movie privileges.

Since everyone else is doing this, I’ll join in. I live in a family of four with an iPhone each, but two of us have AirPods, and I have an Apple Watch and a MacBook. That’s 8 in total, with plans for more.

Well, in my household alone we have 12 with 2 people. 2 iPhone, 2 iPad, 2 Macbook, 2 Apple TV, 2 Airpods Pro, 2 Apple Watches. But yeah, that's still a lot of devices. If they count the Studio Display, then we have 13.

I wouldn’t count the airpods pro, though. They’re more of an accessory.

Me:

24 inch iMac

13 inch MacBook Air

15 inch MacBook Pro

iPhone 15 Pro Max

AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro 2

12.9 inch iPad Pro

Three Apple TV 4ks

Four AirTags

That’s 14 currently in use. My previous generation (and earlier) of devices is either archived or in the hands of my partner. She hasn’t has to buy a new Apple device (except for a phone) for years.

The oldest Apple thing I have that still boots and works fine is my original Macintosh SE. It runs system 7.1.2.
