Alongside today's earnings release that saw Apple share record numbers thanks to strong iPhone, iPad, Mac, and services sales, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Reuters that Apple now has an active installed base of 1.65 billion devices, up from 1.5 billion devices in the year-ago quarter.

Apple has also hit an iPhone milestone, reaching more than 1 billion active iPhones, up from 900 million in 2019.

Apple's total active installed base includes ‌iPhone‌, iPod touch, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch models in use around the world.

It’s also worth noting that many users still only have an iPhone. There is a lot of potential for Apple to continue selling them additional devices, accessories and services in order to round out the whole Apple experience.

In short, for all its size, there is still plenty of room for Apple to grow, especially in the non-iPhone revenue portion.

The end of one decade of expansion, the start of the next decade of growth.

They’ve played the long game and will really start to monetize users through services. We are just getting started.

“ only “ 1.65 billion, not 10.5 billion⁉️ personally I own 5 Apple products..I thought it’s a law every human MUST own at least 3 Apple devices..there are over 3 billions people so it should be 10 billion Appled advices ownage...a very disappointing news..I meant that..

This is exactly why Apple's services & wearables category is exploding, the iPhone is the gate to AirPods, Apple Watch, Apple Music and so on... a sea of users which will never own a Mac, but have an iPhone, AirPods and Apple Music and plan on staying.

Excellent point. A lot of Millennial kids use their iPhone for most everything. They aren't even after the watch, which is surprising to me.

Way over!! There are 7 billion people. A lot of those make Apple devices and can't afford them though :(

A used 2020 iPhone SE goes for $250, while a new one can be paid in $16 monthly installments, if you go on the used market you can find cheaper iPhones, resell value tells you how much demand there is for older models at almost every price point by people with less income that value the speed and quality of the product vs low-range android options.

A smartphone, however basic, is a necessity in todays world, to be able to work, to shop, to communicate. You would be surprised how many lower-paid workers sport iPhones in developing nations. And those, too, are counted as part of the 1 billion active iPhones.

Hmm, I wonder if they have those installment plans for Foxconn workers. Hopefully they just steal them

Expect another great quarter due to people getting tax money and more stimulus checks next month.

Congrats to Tim & his team! That’s impressive.

There are now over 7 billion people on the planet, so Apple still has 5.35 billion more customers to attract before it reaches saturation. ;)

They’re not the textile industry, sewing underwear for pennies, its the higher range of electronic manufacturing, the pay is actually not the main issue with the working conditions but the long shifts, living on-site, very little rest, etc.

They earn enough to save most of their income, incidentally installments are more prevalent in the developing world where everything is paid in small quotas.

I mean, sure, but a quick google search shows below.
That's not a lot when a used iPhone SE is more than half a month's pay.

Why "hopefully"? You condone criminal behavior at manufacturers factories that Apple pays to assemble their phones? This feeds into the the type of critical post about what happens in those factories, raising the cost of the final product and casting doubt on the manufacturer to do the right job.

I mean, "right," is subjective. Taking action against predatory companies, companies that use economically violent strategies to take advantage of a work market may be more right than perishing by those tactics. I think human rights violations are a much bigger deal than petty theft. That casts far more doubt on a manufacturer to me

More than 1 in 8 people in the world own an active iPhone right now. That's wild.

I think the 14" will be the favorite 'sweet' spot for a lot of people. I see the 16" as more niche for the video / music professional.

I agree. I currently have a 2015 15 inch and I was going to upgrade to a 16 inch because 13 was just too small for me even though I really wanted a lighter machine. 14 inch might just be big enough for me and also be very portable.

I think the iPhone market will continue to grow with Apple's focus on security and privacy. With the iPhone SE to the 12 Pro Max Apple has an iPhone to fit just about anyone and their budget.

The Android market has some real issues - outside of Samsung most Android phones are cheap Chinese brands. Motorola & Nokia are not that big of players in the market and LG is leaving. Android updates are fragmented and good luck getting more than 2 years of support.
