Apple ruined it when it became an advertising platform for their music service. At one time it was just a simple music player for music stored on your phone. I stopped using it shortly after they made that change.

I just opened it for the first time in God know how long. To remember what I didn't like. It didn't fail to fulfill that objective. By opening straight to browse showing a bunch of stuff which isn't music stored on my phone. Ads to try Apple Music now. A pop up advertising spatial audio. Plus most of the UI dedicated to the Apple Music service.

While it's fine if they want a music service. They should have kept a regular annoyance free music player. Perhaps as an optional download from the app store. It's not like it would need much upkeep. Just enough to keep it functioning reliably with each iOS update. Plus compatibility updates for any new audio format they start selling like Spatial Audio.
Thank you for your response. Those are all things I like about Apple Music. I have a One subscription and love that it’s not just showing me my music. I can understand how that’s a problem if you just want a stand-alone player.

Haha, love the inclusion of the podcast app reviews!
The podcast app has been a worsening clusterbang of decisions since evil overlord Forstall got the boot and took his goofy Revox reel-to-reel ui with him. It's probably the iOS app I use the most and it is a continual source of rage every time I pick up the device. It's like Apple hired the Skype ui designers to sabotage their own UX and give their competing developers a leg up. If I even start on a review, it's going to reach limit before I've even finished a basic outline.

Hopefully opening up reviews will help Apple realize how hated some of their apps are and find motivation to try some new approaches. It's too easy to simply assume "if people didn't like [this or that individual thing] they wouldn't buy into our ecosystem" and end up dangerously insulated from constructive criticism.

I found it odd when the Fitness app that didn't ship with iPad could be downloaded for inclusion of Fitness+, but no ability to rate that app. Surely having the reviews and star ratings available are a good consideration, though wonder when the star ratings will transition to Like/Dislike as suggested in Music.

Those 1-star reviews on the Podcasts app seem a little unfair to me.

Yes, the UI could use some improvement. I particularly don't like how deeply it buries some commonly used (by me) features, like "recently played".

But, compared to the BBC's awful "BBC Sounds" app, which seems to go out of its way to make it hard for you to find content you're looking for (or even any good new relevant content), the Apple Podcasts app is a discovery dream!
I love prefer the UI of the podcast app, but it has a terrible habit of forgetting that I listened to an episode and replaying it. I begrudgingly switched to Audible up until iOS 15 and just went back because I prefer to keep my books and podcasts separate. I haven't had an issue yet.

For example, it’s slower than competitors and there’s still the 15 seconds bug.
I had no idea what the 15 second bug is but just looked it up. I’ve not had that happen. That’s frustrating for those who have it.

I literally can’t play some albums in high quality. The bug sucks but it’s outrageous that Apple don’t give a **** about it for months. I mean, I pay for the service but it doesn’t work. That’s great. I already stopped paying for and using iCloud because of those gross spying practices that assumes everyone is a creep and if I update to ios 15 someday and the bug will be still there I will cancel Apple Music too. That’s the last remaining service from Apple I’m using and will be the last.

After I read this I went to App Store to leave some 2-3 stars reviews on there but it’s nothing there. Is this a regional thing?
Seems to be.
Moreover CORE iOS Apps like iMessage which deserves a proper flogging still cannot be reviewed. The diaper app has improved but with iMessage and iCloud features cannot be reviewed.

My 2 BIGEEST gripes:
Still no full true sync of sms and iMessages on WatchOS it’s 1-way sync only which is stupid!! Oh you can download apps directly but you cannot clear or sync your messages bidirectionally.

next - calls and messages from other iOS device users CANNOT be blocked. Sure you can click the Block button but guess what they still can message you over iMessge and still call you which removes the block altogether.

Concerning the missing iPad Calculator app ... Apple said they only release apps they think are perfect... therefore I wonder where the 2 star rating for the Podcast app comes from 🤔🤔

These reviews are great. Very helpful.

This.

On top of that, it doesn't even sync properly across devices. I have three devices with the Podcasts app installed, all with the same settings, and yet they never agree on what's been played or where abouts I am on a particular podcast. The whole app is a joke.
This is my biggest issue. Syncing across devices used to work well. Not anymore.
