Surely, Apple could come up with a better idea than to use Uber Eats to deliver their expensive electronics?

Probably, but the challenge is the variation in demand. A traditional delivery service isn't going to dispatch drivers at random times of the day and have days with no calls unless Apple pays a premium. Uber, OTOH, can surge when needed and doesn't care if it's a slow or busy day. I suspect the amount of theft and damage claims are not that much different than other carriers, else Apple would change how it handles same day or simply stop offering it.

I would use the two-hour free delivery if I needed any Apple product before Christmas. One disadvantage of regular carriers this time of year is they are so busy -- I had a MacBook Pro M4 delivered by UPS and it arrived at 10:00 pm. The next week I had a non-Apple product delivered by UPS at 11:59 PM. I had given up waiting for it and went to bed. (Forunately, no signature required and the package was there in the morning.)

Do not use this for expensive items. I had an iPhone go missing, which I never would’ve used this express shipping for if I knew it would be through some random uber eats driver…in the end Apple made it right but it took a while and a lot of hours on calls with them.
The hassle-factor would give me pause too.
Not only is Apple offering a dubious and risky delivery service, they have the nerve to charge for it. Tim could certainly absorb $ 9 on a $ 4,000 MacBook order. Shameless pure greed. How disgusting.
As a stockholder, I would rather YOU pay your damned $9. Gripe on if you must, but if you want something, you should pay for it. If you don’t like that, you can email me “aintfeelinsorryforYOU at nowayinhell.com”
Maybe for you THAT time. Farming out Apple delivery/courier services to the low-paid restaurant food delivery industry is just asking for trouble. Trusting the professional couriers like UPS and FedEx with your expensive purchases isn't much better in my opinion. It can be a rat race, but I'll deal with the mall and trust the rodents at the Apple Store with my purchases before Uber Eats drivers.
I agree!
Nope, it's not for me either for the same reasons I don't trust home delivery via FedEx or UPS with my expensive tech purchases. I'll choose in-store delivery and pick up at the store when possible, thanks. Because people suck and will steal from you, I'll use DoorDash, GrubHub, and UberEats for occasional food deliveries, not my Apple products.
Well, I heard if they’re not eating your order, they’re loogying into it.
I think Timmy saves a penny on every delivery over ups/fed-ex
He had damned well BETTER be saving a penny. I’m tired of the whole world wanting me as a stockholder to pay for every little freebie they think they should be getting!
One plus of charging is it will drive people to go to the store, which is a goal of Apple's, while still allowing people who need it and can't get in an option for getting the product.
Damned straight! Get that foot traffic in the store. Out of every 100 store visitors, we sell a few SOMETHINGS that wouldn’t have been in the online shopping cart.

Yeah, they could throw some food in there. But as a cheap SOB, I would have a problem with that! ;)

Trust a Uber driver to deliver your Macbook pro? Don’t be surprised if it gets switched out with a piece of flooring tile.
