well looking around I found this.https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/01/entry-level-m2-pro-macbook-pros-have-slower-ssd-performance-than-m1-versions/

Judging by what I've read though the consensus seems to be that most users wont actually notice it in real world use.

I'm currently dithering between a 1tb and 2tb Mac Studio. I know I can use external drives which are cheaper but I'm just wondering about machine longevity with a 1tb. The marginal cost difference between the two at that price split over say 6 or 7 years is not worth worrying about. I can pick up the studio now in 1tb form or wait weeks to get one with 2tb (and the dates seem to be moving out on all Macs across the board for delivery in the UK - not sure why).

Thanks, I’ll think about the terabyte one when it’s in stock.

There's the secondary consideration which is that the smaller the ssd drive the more likely you are to exceed its lifespan especially when it gets a bit full.

We are living in the best times now, all this computing power and we don’t know what to do with it. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time with some of these computers and show people how far we’ve reached.
I wish the Mac Studio had a wildly commercially successful in 2002!.

I think Fall of 2024 makes the most sense.
Nothing to go off of, but I would think a spring or early summer release is possible. It all depends on when the M3 shows up for the entry levels, not that the M3 will be an entry level processor.

Spring is looking like base M3 with the majority of recent rumors.

No. I have bought several laptops from there. It's a similar size and shape box, just no graphics.
Pretty positive the inner compartments are the same parts as the retail ones; just the outer box is different, that is, no graphics just grey text.

Mac Studio will need to wait for the M3 Ultra, so it will likely be the last batch along with the Mac Pro to be refreshed in the M3 cycle, if you judge this with what happened with the current M2 gen. Therefore even 2024 fall is a bit optimistic.

Well, after my 27 inch iMac just died on the weekend, i ended up buying a refurbished entry-level Studio. In the end, I just couldn't justify the extra almost-50% for a 16 inch M3 MacBook Pro... mostly because I haven't historically used a laptop for video or sound editing anyways and my eyes just won't play nice with a 14 inch screen for video editing. I'm too old to hang out in Starbucks with a laptop anyways :) I appreciate everyone's online input, especially at MacRumors.
